TRAVEL
Embarking from Via del Babuino, guests will be escorted to the Mercati Traianei, an expansive complex nestled on the slopes of Quirinal Hill. This journey is an experiential voyage that intertwines the threads of archaeology, contemporary art, history, and experimentation, drawing back the curtain on the mysteries of ancient Rome. Guided by an expert art historian, visitors will delve into the core of the archaeological site, discovering the marvels of the recently unearthed marble flooring in the Basilica Ulpia’s eastern apse. This site, commissioned in the 2nd century AD by Emperor Trajan, stands as a monumental testament to the grandeur of Roman civic architecture and the historical significance of manumission.
The adventure culminates in an exceptional dining experience within the precincts of recent archaeological findings. Guests will be treated to a sumptuous ten-course tasting menu, meticulously crafted by the renowned Rimessa Roscioli, promising a culinary journey as captivating as the historical exploration.
This intimate exploration, limited to just four participants per session, ensures a deeply personal and exclusive atmosphere, lasting approximately two hours. It represents a bridge connecting eras, cultures, and sensibilities, reserved exclusively for guests of Hotel de Russie and bookable via the hotel’s Concierge service.
Nestled between Piazza del Popolo and Piazza di Spagna, at the foot of the Pincio hill, Hotel de Russie’s story began in the early 19th century, designed by the acclaimed architect Giuseppe Valadier. The hotel, with its Italian-style garden and historical ties to the Torlonia family, quickly became a haven for international aristocracy, including notable members of the Russian Imperial House. Over the centuries, it has been a cultural hub, attracting artists, sculptors, and literary giants, contributing to its legendary status in the international artistic and cultural scene.
Following a meticulous renovation in 2000 by architect Tommaso Ziffer in collaboration with Olga Polizzi, Rocco Forte Hotels’ Design Director, the Hotel de Russie today stands as a bastion of luxury, blending historical grandeur with contemporary elegance. It continues to attract a discerning clientele, offering a unique vantage point from which to experience the eternal city.
