Sportswear brand Adidas and designer Yohji Yamamoto presented the Y-3 S-Gendo Run sneaker, a new iteration in the Gendo series first introduced in 2022. This season’s design progresses the series’ theme by blending elements from the past with future-oriented designs, offering a fresh silhouette that stands out for its unique approach to form and space.
Part of Chapter 1 of the Y-3 Spring Summer 2024 collection, the sneaker explores the theme of combining the organic with the synthetic to create unexpected aesthetics. It features a design that emphasizes the concept of negative space and elevation, drawing inspiration from the Japanese principle of ‘Ma’, which finds deeper meaning and shape in emptiness. This design philosophy results in a silhouette that expresses the Contra-Natural spirit through its distinct appearance.
The Y-3 S-Gendo Run incorporates the latest midsole technologies from adidas running models, merging them with the visual legacy of the brand’s archival trainers. The sneaker is constructed with a breathable mesh, suede, and leather upper, positioned above a Lightstrike midsole and a hollow Pebax® plate that includes a poured-in EVA element. This combination creates a silhouette that is visually striking.
An expressive outsole completes the look, featuring a juxtaposition of seasonal floral graphics and a herringbone tread pattern. This contrast links the past with the future, marrying new technologies with traditional designs.
Scheduled for release on March 12th, the Y-3 S-Gendo Run will be available globally at adidas.com/y-3, on CONFIRMED, in adidas stores, and through select retailers. This launch continues the collaboration between adidas and Yohji Yamamoto, offering a new option for those interested in the fusion of sport and fashion.
