As the 2024 UEFA Champions League Semifinals approach, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is set to face Borussia Dortmund in a thrilling match-up. The first match is scheduled for April 30 in Dortmund, and the second game will see the teams clash on May 7 in Paris. This dual encounter comes on the heels of PSG’s impressive defeat of Barcelona and Dortmund’s victory over Atlético Madrid in the quarterfinals. Given the excitement of the moment, let’s explore a topic that mirrors the on-field thrill: PSG’s most iconic jerseys.

Over recent years, PSG has not only been a powerhouse in football but also in fashion, partnering with several renowned brands and artists. This includes collaborations with streetwear label Born x Raised, graphic artist Verdy, and the iconic Parisian boutique Colette. Each partnership has brought its unique flair to PSG’s kits, making some of them standout pieces both on and off the pitch.

Paris Saint-Germain x Born x Raised – The collaboration between Paris Saint-Germain and Los Angeles-based streetwear brand Born x Raised epitomizes the fusion of football culture with urban street style. The PSG Born x Raised limited-edition collection was launched just before PSG’s high-profile match against Olympique de Marseille, featuring designs that blend the casual, laid-back vibe of Venice Beach with the historic and sophisticated aura of Parisian football. The centerpiece, a collector’s jersey, incorporates PSG’s iconic tricolor scheme while infusing it with the bold typography and spirit of unity characteristic of Born x Raised, creating a piece that resonates with fans of both football and fashion.

Paris Saint-Germain x Verdy – In an east meets west fashion, PSG’s collaboration with Tokyo-based artist Verdy brought a fresh take on the club’s apparel, timed with their tour of Japan. The unique away kit designed by Verdy, unveiled during a friendly against Kawasaki Frontale, showcases a daring departure from traditional designs. It features Verdy’s distinctive curled typography and the signature Vick character, creating a vibrant connection between Japanese street culture and Parisian football.

Paris Saint-Germain x Colette – Rekindling a historic partnership, PSG teamed up once again with the iconic Parisian boutique Colette for the ‘People of Paris’ 2023-24 campaign. This collaboration revisits the 2017 project to commemorate Colette’s closure, reintroducing the jersey as part of a broader ‘Dark Light’ collection. The jersey features a sleek, monochromatic design enhanced with Nike Dri-FIT technology, and branding that includes Colette’s signature blue dot logo on the sleeve and the store’s wordmark on the back.

SPORTSWEAR

Paris Saint-Germain’s home jersey, adorned in the quintessential red, white, and blue, stands as a symbol of global soccer prestige. Conceived by Daniel Hechter in 1973, the tricolor design was inspired by the dynamic lines of automotive racing stripes. Over the years, this motif has evolved through various iterations, each paying homage to its original essence. Today, PSG luminaries like Mbappé and Dembélé sport this iconic design, ushering the classic Parisian colors into a new era.  Here, we rank the top five PSG jerseys as we gear up for the semifinals.

5th Place: 2021-2022 Home Kit

The 2021-2022 home jersey stays true to PSG’s traditional colors of blue, red, and white but adds a modern twist. It features a tonal jacquard application of the iconic center stripe and border, replacing the classic Hechter design with a more subdued but equally elegant look. The collaboration with Jordan line infuses a sporty yet stylish aesthetic, reminiscent of the Chicago Bulls’ iconic diamond motif.

4th Place: 2000-2001 Away Kit

A blast from the past, the 2000-2001 away kit is characterized by its classic design featuring the PSG logo on the left and the Nike emblem on the right. The central placement of the Opel sponsor and a V-neck collar complete the vintage look, making it a favorite for collectors and long-time fans of the club.

3rd Place: 2019-2020 Third Kit

This kit marked the 30th anniversary of PSG’s partnership with Nike. Inspired by the 1989-90 season’s kit, it features a striking red and blue stripe down the left side, a throwback to the early days of the partnership. The shirt includes a fold-over collar with buttons engraved with “Paris Saint-Germain – 1989-2019,” celebrating three decades of collaboration.

2nd Place: 2018-2019 Third Kit

Unveiled exclusively for the UEFA Champions League, the 2018-2019 season saw PSG introduce two distinct Jordan Paris Saint-Germain soccer uniforms. The primary kit features a sleek black design highlighted by a central white stripe and a prominent white Jumpman logo on the right chest. It is complemented by special detailing, such as a jock tag logo on the lower left and a stripe back neck tape with a ‘PARIS’ logo inside the collar, contributing to its sophisticated appearance. The second uniform offers a striking contrast, predominantly white with subtle black accents, mirroring the clean aesthetics of the black kit but inverting the color scheme to maintain visual interest. Both kits exemplify a blend of high-performance sportswear with cutting-edge street style, marking them as iconic entries in PSG’s fashion-forward kit history.

1st Place: 2019-2020 Fourth Kit

The top spot goes to the 2019-2020 fourth kit, another product of PSG’s collaboration with Jordan line. Designed for the knockout stages of the Champions League, this kit features a unique black base with a vertical band in the colors of the French flag. It’s made from Nike’s VaporKnit fabric, which enhances performance by providing breathability and mobility. This kit looks fearsome and it is built for the high stakes of top-tier football. It represents a perfect blend of functionality and style, making it a favorite among players and fans alike for its aesthetic appeal and performance features.
