Shayne Oliver unveiled his latest collection titled ‘FREUDIAN GLITCH: FANTASIA 2024’ for the Anonymous Club brand, at this year’s Berlin Fashion Week. Hosted at the Tempodrom during the INTERVENTION II event on July 2, 2024, the collection showed Oliver’s continuous design evolution. His work this season features materials like jersey, terry, and rubber, alongside an intriguing new line of printables. These elements explore classic streetwear motifs from New York, alongside international influences.
The ‘FREUDIAN GLITCH: FANTASIA 2024’ collection is themed after dreams and the inherent contradictions between personal aspirations and present-day realities. Oliver employs Freud’s psychoanalytic theories as a backdrop, where dreams are a gateway to uncovering submerged truths beneath our conscious experiences. The collection’s design elements, such as drapings and unique colorways, draw inspiration from Walt Disney, juxtaposing fantasy and darker, more extreme undertones through the use of latex materials.
A standout feature of the collection is its line of printables, which articulate the tension between conventional streetwear and avant-garde expression. The collection includes t-shirts with the ‘dunce baby’ and ‘TART’ graphics, which were highlighted during the runway show. These designs play on the contrast between innocence and provocation, a recurring theme in Oliver’s work that challenges the viewer’s perceptions and expectations.
The venue itself, Tempodrom’s arena stage, was transformed to follow the thematic expression of distance and alienation, fundamental to the ‘FREUDIAN GLITCH: FANTASIA 2024’ narrative. The layout was deliberately spaced to amplify feelings of isolation among the audience, complemented by a cartoonish orchestral soundtrack scored by collaborators Billy Bultheel, Total Freedom, and Suutoo.
