Kiko Kostadinov, the innovative London-based label, has once again teamed up with ASICS for an exciting new collaboration. Known for his abstract and colorful designs, Kostadinov is set to release two fresh colorways of the ASICS GT-2160 in late 2024. This new collaboration features the “Azure” and “Brown Storm” iterations of the ASICS UB6-S GT-2160, building on the successful legacy of previous models like the GEL-TEREMOA and UB3-S GEL-Nimbus 9.
Founded in 2015 by Bulgarian designer Kiko Kostadinov, his label has carved a niche for itself in the fashion world with its unique and eye-catching aesthetic. Kostadinov’s collaborations with ASICS have always been well-received, thanks to their blend of high fashion and sportswear functionality. This time, the focus is on the UB6-S GT-2160, a variant of the GT-2160, which includes premium updates such as enlarged tabs on the tongue and an additional overlay at the heel.
SNEAKERS
The ASICS UB6-S GT-2160 have a sporty design with a chunky sole and the iconic ASICS logo prominently displayed on the center panel. The first colorway, named “Azure,” features a striking shade of blue complemented by white and gold details. This high-contrast mix gives the sneaker a vibrant look that makes a statement. On the other hand, the “Brown Storm” colorway is more subdued, with red and cream accents providing an autumnal feel.
What sets the UB6-S GT-2160 apart from previous models is the attention to detail in its construction. The sneakers feature fabric on the tongue and backtab instead of the traditional mesh, adding a unique texture and look. Additionally, multicolored lines towards the rear, rope laces, and larger-than-usual branding on the forefoot further distinguish these models from standard ASICS releases.
Kostadinov’s role in the collaboration extends beyond that of a typical third-party designer. Over the years, he has settled into a consultant-like position, pioneering new models such as the GEL-Quantum Kinetic and GEL-Quantum Zientzia while reinterpreting classic ASICS silhouettes under his label. The sneakers are expected to release in Fall/Winter 2024, and while the exact release date and price point are yet to be confirmed, they are likely to be in the same range as previous models, which retailed for around $150.
