The fourth collaboration between Song for the Mute and adidas Originals, the “SFTM-004” collection, brings together opulence and contemporary textures. This partnership taps into a dark romanticism, blending Renaissance and Victorian aesthetics with the mischievous energy of a present-day court jester. At the heart of the collection are the ADISTAR Cushion sneakers, which stand out with their luxurious color palette and materials.
SNEAKERS
The shoes come in a striking combination of jade and emerald green, paired with metallic silver accents that evoke the sheen of a knight’s armor. Glossy TPU, pony hair, and suede add layers of complexity and richness to the design, creating a bold contrast between textures.
The Country OG sneaker takes a similarly luxurious approach, using warm camel tones, deep burgundy, and black to create a regal feel. Patent leather and pony hair come together in a juxtaposition that brings a fresh perspective to this classic silhouette. The careful attention to material contrasts gives these shoes a strong identity.
Lyna Ty, Creative Director of Song for the Mute, brings a historical touch to the apparel side of the collection. Track jackets with raw seams and satin panels add a sense of deconstruction, while the co-branded, hand-stitched raw edge appliqué offers a special touch to the traditional design. The pants are an updated take on the iconic adidas Firebird tracksuit. Each piece of apparel reflects Ty’s desire to experiment with texture and material in ways that feel new.
One standout from the apparel collection is the jacquard knit, which showcases earthy tones that resonate with the overall color palette. This knit piece reflects the broader theme of the collection—a nod to the past through innovative use of materials. Meanwhile, the painterly velvet pants bring a sense of grandeur to the mix, referencing historical fabrics and silhouettes.
Photographer Dan Boulton captures this collaboration in the campaign, where he contrasts contemporary fashion with historically inspired, dimly lit settings. Working alongside Creative Director and Stylist Stephen Mann, Boulton creates visuals that evoke a dreamlike tension between past and present. The Song for the Mute adidas Originals SFTM-004 sneakers and apparel collection will pre-release online and in-store at the Song for the Mute Flagship on September 16th, 2024, at 10:00 AM (AEDT), with a global release on September 19th, 2024.
