New Balance sets the stage for winter performance with the release of the Niobium Concept 3, a modular snow boot engineered to excel in extreme weather conditions. As part of the brand’s Tokyo Design Studio, these boots continue the tradition of blending innovation with rugged utility. Available in two new colorways – black and green – the Concept 3 offers a versatile edge, making it a promising choice for both outdoor enthusiasts and urban wearers.
The Niobium Concept 3 employs eVent fabric on the upper, a material known for being both waterproof and breathable. This ensures optimal foot climate control while keeping moisture out. Secured by nylon daisy chain straps, the design allows wearers to customize fit without sacrificing stability, especially during long treks in harsh conditions. Inside, PRIMALOFT insulation provides a robust layer of warmth, critical for those braving snow-laden environments.
A standout feature of the boot is its modular construction. The inner boot, crafted for warmth and comfort, can be easily detached and worn indoors as a room shoe. This adaptability makes it practical for activities such as camping or multi-day winter excursions, where both indoor and outdoor functionality is essential.
The outsole of the Niobium Concept 3 is built with Vibram technology, renowned for its superior grip on icy and uneven surfaces. Paired with New Balance’s ROLLBAR technology, the boot offers reliable arch support and enhanced stability, reducing fatigue during extended wear. The wide landing area of the sole contributes to improved traction, making the boots suitable for both slippery urban settings and backcountry trails.
This new iteration of the Niobium Concept builds on the success of last year’s collaboration with Snow Peak, which introduced the TDS Niobium Concept 3 in a striking white colorway. While the previous model emphasized minimalist aesthetics, the new versions opt for deeper, earthy tones. The green edition offers a subtle nod to outdoor exploration, while the triple black design caters to those seeking a sleek, understated winter boot that transitions easily from trail to city.
Scheduled for release on December 2, 2024, at $200 USD, the Niobium Concept 3 will be available on the New Balance website.
