PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE is set to unveil its newest flagship store at 14 Kenmare Street, New York City, on Thursday, December 12th. Located in the vibrant Nolita neighborhood, the store blends seamlessly with the area’s distinctive character, renowned for its industrial charm, boutique culture, and creative energy.
The flagship occupies the ground floor of an architectural milestone: Tadao Ando’s first building in New York and his inaugural residential project outside Asia. This architectural landmark anchors the store’s presence at the corner of Elizabeth and Kenmare Streets, offering an expansive 2,224 square feet of retail space with 60 feet of street-level frontage.
Designed by Japanese design firm MOMENT, the space reflects a striking interplay of modernity and industrial elegance. The store’s design features sharp lines that echo the brand’s innovative spirit, with lighting rails embedded in polished steel plates running across the ceiling. White molded resin-paneled walls evoke the signature pleating technique synonymous with PLEATS PLEASE, creating a visual connection to the brand’s aesthetic. Concrete floors and walls are juxtaposed with glossy and milky white surfaces on tables and rail structures, blending raw textures with refined finishes to mirror the functionality and artistry of the collection.
To commemorate the store opening, an exclusive series titled SOIL & LEAF will debut at the location, showcasing pleated tops, skirts, and dresses that embody the brand’s commitment to innovation and effortless style.
With this flagship store, PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE invites customers to explore a space that captures the brand’s ethos of lightness and dynamic design, offering a unique retail experience in the heart of downtown Manhattan.
