Staying at the Warren Street Hotel introduces something fresh and unique to New York’s TriBeCa neighborhood. Situated just steps from the World Trade Center, its location alone makes it an ideal base for exploring downtown Manhattan. TriBeCa has transformed into a rich blend of old and new, where cobblestone streets meet a modern energy from art galleries, trendy restaurants, and creative cafés—a scene pulsing with life, history, and contemporary design. The Warren Street Hotel, the latest addition to the Firmdale Hotels family, captures this duality with bold and thoughtful interiors by founder Kit Kemp that feel innovative yet perfectly at home here.

Warren Street Hotel Design Details

The hotel’s striking blue facade, topped with an unexpected splash of yellow, makes an eye-catching statement in this historic area. It sets the tone for what Kit Kemp, Firmdale’s Creative Director and visionary behind the design, has crafted inside. Known for her signature maximalist aesthetic, Kemp has brought together a dazzling array of colors, textures, and patterns. Warren Street is not just a place to stay—it’s a dynamic space that blends personal touches with a sense of grandeur, capturing Kemp’s vision in every detail, from the rugs and custom furniture to the toiletries. It’s as if Kemp has designed a place where New York’s spirit meets an artistic home away from home. “We have sought out and commissioned our favourite artists and sculptors to create original pieces, and curated the very best from our own collections dreamt up in our design studio to fashion a very individual ambience that feels exciting and exclusive to our third New York hotel,” shares Kemp.

Warren Street Hotel’s Impressive Rooms

We stayed in one of the hotel’s one-bedroom apartments, and it struck the perfect balance between liveliness and comfort. While maximalism can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially to those who lean toward a more minimalist approach, Kemp’s style here feels uniquely harmonious. The apartment doesn’t just feel designed; it feels alive. The custom furniture, intricate rugs, and warm color palette make it inviting rather than overstimulating, and the decor balances elegance with an almost quirky personality. Despite not being a typical fan of maximalism, I found myself won over. This apartment was cozy without being stifling, luxurious without losing that all-important sense of welcome. It felt like a dream home—one infused with Kemp’s distinctive style.

Throughout the hotel, Kemp’s personal touch shines. Many of the pieces featured are from her collaborations, like her fabrics with Christopher Farr Cloth, GP&J Baker, and Spode. Each item in the hotel feels deliberately chosen rather than merely placed. Even the bath products reflect this sense of bespoke comfort; the “Tall Trees” china pattern for Spode, which also appears in the hotel’s restaurant, lends an air of elegance to small daily rituals, with scents of pink pepper, cedarwood, and patchouli adding a touch of Kemp’s fairytale-like atmosphere. It’s details like these that make a stay at Warren Street Hotel so memorable.

Art Collection at Warren Street

The hotel’s art sentiment isn’t confined to the guest rooms. Around every corner is a carefully curated mix of artwork and design, with commissioned pieces that make the hotel feel like an art gallery as much as a place to unwind. Sculptures by Tony Cragg and Wendell Castle lend a thoughtful, almost meditative quality to the public areas, creating a setting that invites you to stop, observe, and appreciate. The bespoke lighting, playful patterns, and handcrafted ceramics create a welcoming aesthetic that still feels very much grounded in the creative pulse of Tribeca. It’s eclectic without trying too hard, sophisticated without feeling cold—qualities that are rarely achieved in even the most lavish hotels.

Bar & Restaurant

The Warren Street Bar & Restaurant is an extension of this experience, merging Kemp’s artistic vision with culinary flair. It’s a space that holds its own charm, designed as more than just a hotel restaurant but as a true gathering place. With a menu that features classic dishes infused with global flavors, it caters to a diverse palate, fitting perfectly in the multicultural vibe of New York. The walls are adorned with large, colorful artworks that enliven the space, and diners are led through to the Orangery, an enchanting setting featuring handmade ceramic pots and a captivating collection of British crafts. It feels both familiar and inspiring, a setting where every detail aligns with Kemp’s overarching vision of an eclectic, welcoming environment.

The Warren Street Hotel is Firmdale’s third venture in New York, following the acclaimed Crosby Street Hotel in SoHo and The Whitby in Midtown. While each property is unique, Warren Street manages to bring something distinctly fresh to the Firmdale portfolio. Kit Kemp, with her daughters Minnie and Willow, has shaped this space as a reflection of her dedication to design that feels thoughtful and lived-in. It’s a rare feat to make such a bold aesthetic feel intimate, but Kemp accomplishes just that. She has created a place where guests can step into her world, explore an artfully curated universe, and feel genuinely comfortable.
