In a transformative move within the luxury fashion landscape, Bottega Veneta has announced the appointment of Louise Trotter as its new Creative Director, succeeding Matthieu Blazy. This strategic change signals the brand’s commitment to evolving its aesthetic and reinforcing its position in the competitive fashion industry.

NEWS

Louise Trotter, currently the creative force behind the esteemed French brand Carven, brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to Bottega Veneta. She is set to assume her role at the end of January 2025, becoming the only female creative director within Kering’s illustrious portfolio, which includes Gucci, Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, and Balenciaga. Trotter’s appointment comes at a pivotal time as Bottega Veneta continues to thrive, reporting revenues of nearly 400 million euros ($416.6 million) in the third quarter of this year, despite declines in other Kering brands.

Matthieu Blazy, who led Bottega Veneta for three transformative years, is set to take the helm at Chanel, one of fashion’s most iconic houses. Blazy’s tenure at Bottega Veneta was marked by innovative designs and significant brand elevation, making him a sought-after talent in the fashion world. His move to Chanel is expected to infuse the storied French brand with his sophisticated vision and creative prowess, continuing his legacy of excellence in luxury fashion. Under his direction, the brand garnered significant acclaim, with Blazy being nominated for Designer of the Year at the 2022 and 2023 Fashion Awards in London.

Louise Trotter, aged 55, arrives at Bottega Veneta with a distinguished career in fashion design. Prior to Carven, she held creative director positions at Lacoste and the English label Joseph, where she successfully revitalized each brand with her minimalist yet luxurious approach. At Carven, Trotter transformed the brand into a sanctuary of accessible plush luxury, rescuing it from potential irrelevance and redefining its market presence.

Her design philosophy seamlessly blends exquisite craftsmanship with sublime design, aligning perfectly with Bottega Veneta’s vision. Trotter is renowned for her commitment to cultural advocacy, a trait that complements the brand’s dedication to timeless elegance and modern sophistication. Her aesthetic, often compared to Phoebe Philo’s Celine and The Row, emphasizes a graceful, grown-up sophistication that promises to steer Bottega Veneta towards sustained success.

Trotter’s appointment marks Bottega Veneta’s third creative director in five years, amidst a turbulent period in the fashion world where eight different brands have announced new designers in the past year alone. Despite the rapid changes, Trotter’s steady and product-focused approach is expected to provide stability and continuity for Bottega Veneta, reinforcing its status as a leading name in luxury fashion.

Her debut collection for Bottega Veneta is scheduled to premiere in October 2025 during Milan Fashion Week, where she will showcase her vision for the brand’s future. Trotter’s leadership is anticipated to build on Blazy’s successes, further enhancing Bottega Veneta’s reputation for innovation and high-quality craftsmanship.

As Louise Trotter prepares to take the reins at Bottega Veneta, the fashion industry eagerly anticipates the fresh perspectives she will bring to the iconic house. Her ability to blend minimalist luxury with cultural advocacy positions her as a perfect fit for Bottega Veneta’s next chapter. Under her guidance, the brand is poised to continue its upward trajectory, offering sophisticated designs that resonate with a discerning global clientele.
