Tucked between vineyards and mountain views, just minutes from Merano, Hotel Muchele offers a retreat where luxury meets laid-back charm. With only 42 suites, this four-star superior property in Burgstall gives guests generous space and a personal atmosphere.
HOTELS
Instead of feeling like a conventional hotel, a stay here feels like visiting an elegant private villa, run by sisters Martina, Priska, and Anna, whose family has shaped the house for generations.

Life at Muchele unfolds under open skies. In the new outdoor kitchen, chef Patrick Holzner works with high-quality local ingredients, prepared with clean flavors and seasonal precision.

On warm evenings, barefoot aperitivos lead into grill nights, and as the sun sets over the mountains, the terrace becomes the perfect setting for long conversations and shared plates. One of the highlights of our stay was the barbecue night outside, where the changing light turned the evening into an experience in itself.

The hotel’s vibrant programming keeps things fresh and engaging, from cultural evenings and nights with artists to casual gatherings on the terrace. Guests looking for insider knowledge will find the team warm and eager to help. When we inquired about hiking routes, the staff were quick to recommend their favorite trails, complete with tips for the best views. Every morning, the hotel’s own daily newspaper provides weather updates, hiking suggestions, and news from around the property, making it easy to plan the day ahead.

Breakfast at Muchele is an event in itself, with an exquisite spread that pairs beautifully with coffee from Kuntrawant, a small artisanal roastery in South Tyrol whose name comes from the Vinschgau dialect for “smuggle.” This Alpine-roasted coffee brings depth and character to every cup, perfectly matching the hotel’s focus on quality and locality.

Design runs through every corner of the property. Sleek architecture meets warm details, from lushly planted terraces and cozy alcoves to the 18-meter infinity pool made of South Tyrolean porphyry. Filled with saltwater and heated to 31°C, it invites early risers to swim toward the mountains. Inside, contemporary interiors are punctuated by statement furniture pieces from Moroso and Diesel Living, giving each space a touch of Italian design edge that contrasts beautifully with the surrounding Alpine views.

The Anna Spa blends natural stone, local chestnut wood, and clean lines to create a serene setting. Three bright saunas, a large relaxation lounge with mountain views, and four treatment rooms for massages and beauty rituals offer plenty of space to unwind. Anna has also woven her personal passion into the spa with a boutique featuring handbags, silk dresses, and eyewear from her label, Anna Teresa.

Wine lovers can join host Hansjörg in the “clay wine cellar” twice a week for tastings, while Franziska, also part of the family team, shares vintages from her own small winery. Along with the dance nights, outdoor kitchen experiences, and in-house coffee roastery, Hotel Muchele captures the essence of Mediterranean living infused with South Tyrolean warmth, a genuine hidden gem for those who prefer to spend their holidays barefoot.
