Ralph Lauren introduced the Polo Bear to the brand in 1990 as a birthday gift, and now the character stars in an animated film after evolving into one of its most recognizable icons. Originally a mascot, the bear quickly became a central figure in Ralph Lauren’s visual identity, appearing on apparel and in campaigns as a symbol of the brand’s style narrative. Over the years, the character has developed a personality that resonates with fans, reinforcing its role as a playful yet sophisticated emblem within the Ralph Lauren universe.
Now, the Polo Bear steps into a new medium as the star of Ralph Lauren’s first animated short film. The Polo Bear Chronicles: Operation Black Tie runs for six minutes and expands the character’s story through an animated adventure. The film follows the bear as he embarks on a mission to recover stolen art, navigating a series of locations that combine fashion references with playful storytelling.

The narrative takes viewers from moonlit galleries to exclusive polo matches, creating a sequence of events that mixes mystery with style-driven settings. Along the way, the Polo Bear encounters side quests and unexpected scenarios, each reinforcing his role as a fashionable protagonist capable of handling intrigue with charm.
The trailer sets the tone with a scene inside a quiet Manhattan townhouse. Jazz plays in the background, the bear’s tailored clothing catches the light, and a new character enters the story, a streetwise pigeon who serves as an unlikely partner. Together, they set out to recover stolen art in what the narration calls “the most refined art recovery of the century.” The duo moves from brownstones to beach houses, from polo games to high-profile galas, outfitting characters they encounter along the way, from socialites to security guards.

The film maintains the Polo Bear’s signature silent persona, allowing the visuals and setting to carry the story. The absence of dialogue keeps the focus on the bear’s style, the details of his surroundings, and the clever movements that propel the plot forward. The trailer concludes with a line that encapsulates the central mystery: “When the lights go out and the art goes missing, there’s only one name on everyone’s lips … Polo Bear.”

The Polo Bear Chronicles: Operation Black Tie marks a new chapter for the character, expanding his role from static images and apparel motifs into an animated lead. The full film premieres Thursday, August 14, on Ralph Lauren’s official YouTube channel.
