Disney’s 20th Century Studios has released the first official teaser for The Devil Wears Prada 2, igniting a wave of excitement nearly two decades after the original film reshaped how we talk about ambition, fashion, and power. The clip opens with Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly striding through a hallway in red heels to Madonna’s Vogue. She enters an elevator, the doors begin to close, and Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs steps inside. Miranda gives her a pointed look and says, “Took you long enough.” The teaser arrives with a wry description: “A sequel? For spring? Groundbreaking.”

MOVIES

The studio had already fueled anticipation back in July, when Hathaway posted an image captioned “Andy Sachs 2025” while wearing a vintage pin-striped Jean Paul Gaultier suit. Her new attitude signals major changes from the anxious assistant we met in 2006 and raises questions about Andy’s current role in the Runway orbit.

The original film earned its status as a cultural fixture through its vivid portrayal of fashion-media spaces and the transformation Andy undergoes as she adjusts to her role as Miranda’s second assistant. She enters Runway as an ambitious but inexperienced journalist and adapts to a world defined by exclusivity. Even viewers who supported her choice to leave that world at the end of the film still remember the glossy interiors, the polished offices, and the sense of access that shaped the story. The sequel’s arrival on May 1, 2026, promises a return to those rooms with a contemporary lens.

The teaser confirms the return of the core cast. Streep steps back into her Oscar-nominated role as Miranda, with Stanley Tucci returning as Nigel and Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton. New cast members include Lucy Liu, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, BJ Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Helen J. Shen, Conrad Ricamora, and Kenneth Branagh, who will play Miranda’s husband. Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman reprise their roles as Lily and Irv Ravitz. Donatella Versace and Lady Gaga filmed cameos in Milan, adding another layer of intrigue to the production.

Variety reports that the new film follows Miranda as she navigates the sharp decline of traditional magazine publishing. Emily Charlton, now a senior figure at a major luxury group, controls advertising budgets Miranda needs. Reports also indicate that Emily holds onto past resentment and may work with her billionaire boyfriend on a plan involving Runway, which faces financial strain. Some sources claim Emily appears in head-to-toe Dior, adding a competitive fashion dynamic to the plot. The story also touches on the rise of influencers, the acceleration of fast fashion, and changing definitions of power in a digital climate.

Hathaway once questioned whether a sequel could work in the present media landscape during a 2022 interview, noting the shift from print to digital. Yet the new film positions Miranda within those challenges, which opens the door for sharp commentary on the state of fashion media. Fans hope that the role of The Book remains intact, even if the industry around it has changed.

The original film’s locations continue to fascinate viewers. Miranda’s Upper East Side townhouse sold for $26.5 million in 2023, while the SoHo loft associated with Christian Thompson went on the market for $8.65 million. The sequel expands its reach with filming in New York, Milan during fashion week, where Streep and Tucci were seen at a Dolce & Gabbana event, and Lake Como. Set photos reveal Miranda, Andy, and Nigel outside the Runway building on Avenue of the Americas, suggesting a return to familiar power corridors.

Filming wrapped for the cast in October 2025, with Simone Ashley first to confirm her completion. Her announcement closed out a production that steps back into the same forceful world that produced the line “Everybody wants to be us.”
