The Kobe 3 Protro Royal Pulse revisits one of the most unusual silhouettes in Kobe Bryant’s signature line. First released in 2007, the Kobe 3 stood apart through its high-cut construction and layered upper, a structure designed to reinforce containment during sharp lateral movement. Unlike later low-cut Kobe models, this shoe prioritized lockdown and stability over minimalism.

The Protro edition keeps that original structure intact while updating the underfoot system. Nike replaces the original cushioning setup with a full-length Air Zoom Strobel unit paired with Cushlon foam. This configuration places responsive cushioning directly beneath the foot, improving court feel and energy return compared to the segmented Zoom units used in the original release.
The upper retains its net-inspired construction, which functions as a containment system. Reinforced zones across the forefoot and midfoot support quick directional changes, while the high collar maintains ankle coverage for players who prefer added structure. Breathability improves through updates to the tongue and upper materials, addressing one of the limitations of the 2007 model.
Traction also receives an upgrade. Nike reworks the outsole pattern to deliver stronger grip than the original Kobe 3, supporting abrupt stops and fast cuts. A University Gold Swoosh appears on the outsole, while hidden Sheath logos at the toe reference the cold, icy concept. An additional set of Royal Pulse laces accompanies the release.
