The Premium Ink colorway draws from Gilgeous-Alexander’s approach to design, rooted in hand-drawn sketches developed during the early stages of the sneaker’s creation. This reference informs the overall tone of the shoe, expressed through a deep indigo and dark navy finish that covers the upper. The color selection gives the silhouette a more concentrated presence, aligning the design with his personal creative process.

The SHAI 001 retains its molded upper, shaped with a puffed construction that defines the overall form. This structure creates a smooth surface that holds its volume while supporting comfort throughout wear. The upper maintains a continuous flow across the shoe, reinforcing the visual identity established in the initial release.
A zippered shroud remains central to the design. This feature covers the lacing system while allowing access to it, offering a functional element that supports adjustment and fit. The shroud introduces a distinct layer to the sneaker, shaping how the shoe appears when worn.

The sneaker is built for on-court use with a focus on responsiveness and control. A Nike Zoom Air unit in the forefoot supports movement through a responsive feel during play. Underfoot, a radial traction pattern provides grip for directional changes and quick transitions. Co-branded details complete the construction. Gilgeous-Alexander’s signature logo appears on the padded tongue, marking the shoe with a clear point of identity.
The SHAI 001 continues to position itself within both performance and streetwear contexts through its construction and visual approach. The Premium Ink version extends this direction through a focused palette and consistent structure. The Converse SHAI 001 Premium Ink will be available online and in stores starting May 14, 2026.
