Netflix is developing a new version of 13 Going on 30 with Emily Bader and Logan Lerman in the leading roles. Brett Haley will direct the romantic comedy after working with Bader on People We Meet on Vacation. Jessica Alba, Taylor Ortega, Tim Meadows and Dan Bucatinsky also join the cast. Jennifer Garner returns to the project as an executive producer.

The film introduces a new generation to the phrase “30, flirty, and thriving,” which helped define the original romantic comedy starring Garner, Mark Ruffalo and Judy Greer. Netflix has kept the plot under wraps, so the studio has yet to reveal how the new film will approach the original premise or its characters.
Bader recently worked with Haley on People We Meet on Vacation, where she played Poppy. The director expressed enthusiasm about continuing their collaboration and praised her pairing with Lerman. He described the two actors as a strong match and said he felt fortunate to take on a film that carries deep meaning for many viewers. Haley’s directing credits also include All the Bright Places and All Together Now.
Garner’s involvement gives the project a direct connection to the original film. Haley called the earlier movie rare and nearly perfect, citing its humor, emotion and memorable performances. He also acknowledged the responsibility that comes with revisiting a title that has remained important to audiences. Garner’s executive producer role carries particular significance for the director because she played Jenna Rink in the original release.
Haley directs from a screenplay by Hannah Marks, whose previous work includes Mark, Mary, & Some Other People and After Everything. Flora Greeson, known for The Princess Diaries 3 and The High Note, later revised the script. Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum produce for RK Films, with Garner, Donna Roth, Susan Arnold, Scott Hemming for Revolution Studios, Alyssa Altman for RK Films, Marks, Gina Matthews and Ted Gidlow serving as executive producers.
The project also continues Haley’s work with Netflix. His previous film for the platform, People We Meet on Vacation, remained on the Global Top 10 Movies English list for four weeks and reached the Top 10 Movies chart in 92 countries.
Netflix has not announced a release date for the new 13 Going on 30. The company also has not shared further plot information, character details or production timing. For now, the confirmed cast and creative team offer the clearest picture of the reboot.
