Halloween has become a regular part of the sneaker calendar, giving brands an opportunity to take familiar models into darker territory through seasonal colors, luminous finishes and horror-inspired details. Jordan Brand joins that October tradition for 2026 with the Air Jordan 5 Halloween, a Black and Picante Red edition that will arrive ahead of the holiday.

Premium black nubuck covers the upper, creating a dark foundation for smaller flashes of Picante Red. Glow-in-the-dark details appear through the branding and translucent outsole, giving the shoe a different appearance once the light drops. The official color description reads Black/Picante Red/Glow In The Dark/Black, keeping the palette relatively restrained despite the seasonal theme.

The Air Jordan 5 already carries several design elements that work naturally with the concept. Tinker Hatfield designed the model for 1990, taking inspiration from American WWII fighter aircraft and translating shark-tooth graphics into the jagged detailing along the midsole. Net-inspired sections on the tongue and quarter panels, lace locks, a pronounced padded collar and a translucent outsole completed a design that looked distinctly different from the Air Jordan 4 that preceded it.
Nike introduced the AJ5 during Michael Jordan’s 1989–1990 season, with Spike Lee’s Mars Blackmon character helping present the model in advertising. Hatfield’s fighter-aircraft reference gave the sneaker an aggressive graphic identity from the beginning, while the combination of mesh, visible Air and translucent rubber established several features that remain closely associated with the silhouette.

The 2026 edition retains that familiar construction. Nike Air technology provides impact cushioning, with Air support in the heel and forefoot. Max Air adds cushioning underfoot, while a foam midsole and rubber outsole complete the setup. The upper combines premium leather and nubuck, keeping the materials substantial enough to suit the darker finish.
Nike has explored Halloween through footwear for more than two decades. The brand launched its first Halloween-themed SB Dunk in 2003, beginning a series that brought horror references and unusual seasonal color combinations to the Dunk. The Air Force 1 later became another recurring October model through the “Skeleton” series, which began in 2018 with anatomical foot graphics and a glow-in-the-dark outsole. Nike followed it with black, orange and purple editions, extending the concept over several Halloween seasons.

The Air Jordan 5 Halloween will release on October 17, 2026. Adult pairs will retail for $215, Big Kids’ pairs for $155, Little Kids’ pairs for $95, and Toddler pairs for $80.
