Discover Winnie‘s Spring Summer 2021 menswear collection, that was entirely created – drafted, cut and sewn by designer Idris Balogun. The collection was made from recycled fabrics.
SPRING SUMMER 2021 MENSWEAR COLLECTION
I found it challenging to keep a positive and creative headspace through this worldwide pandemic; it was early stages in the launch of WINNIE, New York City factory and fabric mill partners were forced to close; it was a tad overwhelming. After weeks of feeling defeated and un-inspired I found an inner voice provoking me to go on. I like to believe this inner voice is my grandmother.
I began drafting patterns; it used to be my favorite pass time as an apprentice on Savile Row. Before I knew it, I had drafted a full – piece peak lapel, single breasted suit with double vents – the first look of my Spring/Summer 2021 collection. The nostalgia of drafting that pattern inspired me to sew it myself using left over fabrics from past seasons; fabrics that may not have made it into the collections. – Idris Balogun
