Simone Rocha FW25 Revisits School Days with a Rebellious Edge

Bike locks, plush hares, and shredded ribbons redefine schoolyard influences as Simone Rocha introduces a tougher edge to her romantic aesthetic.

Simone Rocha’s FW25 collection explored nostalgia, rebellion, and personal reflection. Rooted in the idea of finding solace in one’s own time and space, Rocha turned to childhood memories and school days for inspiration. Referencing The Tortoise & The Hare, she examined the tension between haste and patience, innocence and defiance, creating a collection that felt familiar yet subversive.

Elements of childhood reappeared in unexpected ways. Bike shed locks became waist-cinching belts, hares adorned varsity polos and plush hand-held companions, and oversized ribbons cascaded down garments with a sense of playfulness. Rocha reimagined paper bag dresses with hardware details, while her well-known egg bags transformed into pearly tortoises, reinforcing the collection’s connection to the fable.

The contrast between youthful nostalgia and refined elegance shaped the collection’s tone. Ribbon-laced sneakers and bloomers stood alongside polished faux fur stoles, while tweeds and bandeaus brought in elements of old Hollywood glamour. Alexa Chung, a long-standing figure in London fashion, walked the runway in a leather jacket, fur-trimmed top, slit skirt, and structured handbag, capturing Rocha’s evolving perspective on femininity.

Menswear played a more defined role this season. Duffle jackets, pleated shorts, fur-trimmed knits, and jewel-embellished socks drew from school uniforms but carried a new attitude. Rocha’s expansion into menswear highlighted her ability to reinterpret traditional styles while maintaining her distinct aesthetic.

A sense of rebellion ran through the collection, shifting the narrative from dreamy romance to something sharper. Hardware details, harnesses, and black leather pieces disrupted the softness of lace and florals. Rocha embraced the image of the schoolgirl who lingers behind the bike shed, rewriting expectations with twisted twin sets, shredded ribbon dresses, and skirts that nodded to Thom Browne’s tie-infused tailoring.

While Rocha has long been associated with ultra-feminine aesthetics, FW25 marked a shift. The familiar elements remained, but they were met with a rawer, more assertive energy.
