Abraham Ortuño Named Creative Director of Camper and Camperlab

Spanish designer Abra will oversee product and brand direction, with his first collection set for Fall Winter 2027.

Camper has announced the appointment of Spanish designer Abraham Ortuño as the new Creative Director of both Camper and Camperlab. Known professionally as Abra, Ortuño will lead the creative direction across product design and brand communication for the two labels, shaping a unified vision that connects footwear, fashion, and cultural narrative. His arrival signals a new phase for the Mallorca-based company as it continues to strengthen its presence within the global fashion landscape.

Ortuño succeeds Finnish designer Achilles Ion Gabriel, who steps down after more than six years with the brand. Ion Gabriel joined Camper in 2019 as Creative Director of Camperlab before expanding his role in 2020 to oversee the entire Camper product design direction. His final work for the company will be the Spring Summer 2027 collection, scheduled for release in December.

Miguel Fluxà, CEO of Camper, described the appointment as an important step in the company’s evolution. “Abraham represents a new generation of creative leadership. His deep understanding of footwear, combined with a strong cultural sensibility and international perspective, makes him the ideal person to guide Camper into its next phase. We believe his vision will strengthen our design identity while opening new creative territories. We are very excited to start this new chapter together,” Fluxà said.

Camperlab Fall Winter 2026

 

Ortuño’s creative debut for both Camper and Camperlab will arrive with the Fall Winter 2027 season. The new direction will be revealed in early 2027, with the collection scheduled for global release in June 2027. The launch will introduce the first full expression of his approach to footwear and brand identity under the Camper umbrella.

Reflecting on the appointment, Ortuño described the opportunity as deeply personal. “It is an incredible honor to step into the role of Creative Director for Camper and Camperlab. As a Spanish designer, Camper has always represented the pinnacle of our country’s design legacy, a brand that fearlessly balances Mediterranean pragmatism with a profound sense of play. I look forward to honoring that rich archive while introducing a new, subversive energy to both the mainline and Camperlab. We are going to push the boundaries of footwear, blending irony, craftsmanship, and contemporary culture,” he said.

Born in Alicante and currently based between Paris and Spain, Ortuño built his reputation through a design language that combines technical precision with emotional storytelling. Before launching his own label Abra in 2019, he worked with several major international fashion houses, developing accessories and footwear that gained strong recognition within the industry.

Camperlab Fall Winter 2026

Through his brand Abra, Ortuño created collections that merge Spanish artisanal traditions with forward-looking design. The label quickly found an audience in leading concept stores worldwide, establishing him as a designer capable of bridging craft heritage with experimental fashion aesthetics. His work consistently engages with footwear culture while challenging conventional design structures.

The appointment arrives during a period of continued development for Camperlab. Introduced in 2015 as the most experimental arm of Camper, the line gradually expanded into a full fashion proposition. In 2024, Camperlab launched ready-to-wear and began presenting collections on the official Paris Men’s Fashion Week calendar, positioning the label as a platform that combines footwear, clothing, and cultural storytelling.

Camper itself carries a long design history rooted in Mallorca. The brand was founded in 1975, although the Fluxà family’s shoemaking tradition dates back to 1877. Over the decades the company has developed a global reputation for footwear that combines contemporary design with practicality and Mediterranean sensibility.

Today Camper remains a family-owned business led by the fourth generation of the Fluxà family. This continuity has allowed the company to maintain a balance between its heritage and an ongoing interest in experimentation. With Abraham Ortuño now guiding both Camper and Camperlab, the brand prepares to enter a new creative phase shaped by a designer deeply connected to footwear culture and Spanish craft traditions.
