New Balance introduces the 2000 ABZORB “Smoked Violet,” adding a muted seasonal colorway to its growing lineup of chunky retro runners. The release continues the Boston brand’s focus on maximalist footwear built around visible cushioning systems, layered uppers and substantial proportions.
SNEAKERS
The latest edition uses a Boysonberry and Smoked Violet palette across the upper. Low saturation lavender tones cover the panels and give the shoe a softer character than many of the brighter options associated with the model. Off white sections fill the spaces between the violet layers, creating a neutral break within the color scheme.

The subdued colors allow the sole platform, upper panels and hardware to carry more visual weight. The palette also adds another seasonal option to the existing New Balance 2000 range. The upper uses several overlapping sections, allowing the purple shades to shift slightly from panel to panel. The off white areas separate those layers and prevent the shoe from becoming visually dense.
Underfoot, the 2000 uses the ABZORB cushioning system that gives the model its name. New Balance leaves the technology visible, making the sole platform a key part of the design. The pronounced cushioning, wide base and hardware details place the sneaker within the current return of retro running shapes with an exaggerated technical look.

The 2000 already holds its own place within that broader lineup. Its substantial sole, visible technology and dense upper construction give it a clear identity among New Balance lifestyle runners. The “Smoked Violet” edition keeps those established elements and changes the mood through color.
With this edition, New Balance continues to add varied seasonal palettes to the 2000 while maintaining the structure that defines the model. The muted purple treatment offers a quieter option within the brand’s visible tech category and places the ABZORB runner firmly within its expanding retro footwear program.
