Dior Ribbon Sneakers Review: Jonathan Anderson Rewrites the Running Shoe

Designed by Jonathan Anderson for Spring 2027, the updated Dior Ribbon sneakers take the classic running shoe and recast it in a contemporary spirit. The pitch is casual ease wrapped in heritage, and the pair does not overreach to prove either. The silhouette is lightweight, comfortable, and pared back, with a retro touch that feels deliberate rather than costume-like.

A Running Shoe for Everyday Wear

Luxury sneakers often arrive bulky, overbuilt, and louder than they need to be. My expectation going in was the same. What stands out instead is restraint. The shape stays low and simple, and the proportions feel right for a shoe meant to be worn daily rather than saved for a special occasion. The brand describes the look as fresh and designed for everyday wear, which is a modest promise. Here it feels honest.

The Dior ribbon is the detail that carries the design. Inspired by the House’s emblematic shoes, it highlights the construction in one of two ways: affixed to the side or discreetly molded into the sole. That choice matters. The side version is a clear brand statement, while the molded version lets the logo recede. It suits a wearer who wants the reference without the shout.

In the editorial image, the red-and-white ribbon on the side of the pale blue upper is the sharpest contrast in the frame. It is the one element that pulls the eye, and it does so without overwhelming the silhouette.

Materials Make the Difference

Fabric lining, technical finishes, and metallic detailing complete the build. The real interest is in how the range mixes leather and suede. Suede softens the retro reference and gives the shoe a relaxed, almost vintage hand. Leather adds structure and polish, so the sneaker does not read as a casual afterthought. That balance is where the design earns its place in a serious wardrobe.

The colorways split into two camps. The vibrant shades, like the light blue in the photograph, feel playful against plain concrete and neutral walls. The more sober options should suit anyone with a tailored or minimalist wardrobe. The Dior Oblique version adds the House’s signature monogram for those who want the full statement, though I would reserve it for a single, quiet outfit so the shoe does the work.

Styling the Look

The editorial shows the sneaker in a tonal, practical setup: ribbed corduroy trousers in a softer blue with a relaxed, straight leg, a black padded jacket with a utilitarian front pocket, and a navy layer underneath. The palette is calm and controlled, which lets the shoe act as the one bright accent. That is a smart approach. A sneaker with this much color works best when everything around it stays quiet.

The fit of the trouser over the ankle also matters here. A slightly longer leg breaks over the shoe and shows the ribbon on the side, which keeps the detail visible even when the outfit is layered. Cropping the trouser too short would hide the sneaker’s best feature.

The Dior Ribbon sneakers do not try to reinvent the sneaker. They take a familiar silhouette, sharpen it, and give it a clear point of view. That is where many luxury sneakers miss. For buyers who want an everyday shoe with a direct link to the House, this pair is a strong choice. Those who want something louder will find the Oblique version, and those who prefer restraint have the more sober shades.
