Burberry Fall Winter 2022 / 2023 collection was revealed in London with a live runway show outside of the recently wrapped up London Fashion Week Schedule. Burberry thus joins a number of top fashion brands still showcasing their collections outside of the official fashion week schedules. Burberry and Riccardo Tisci this time present their menswear and womenswear Fall Winter 2022 collections at the same time. The British fashion house for this occasion returns to live audience shows after more than two years of showing primarily digitally with no buyers or members of the press present.

The collection as we could expect mixes the aesthetic remarkably close to Creative Director Riccardo Tisci infused with the traditional design lines so familiar from the Burberry archives. The runway kicks off initially with the menswear looks, followed by larger womenswear designs stepping onto the set design spotlighting the looks on made up ‘restaurant tables‘. However, while restaurant was the theme, the fashion crowd did not enjoy an true dinner during this presentation. Actually this dinner party was not even a seated one, the press and guests at the show were positioned standing around the circular tables spotlighting the models. Burberry models were walking throughout the venue and stepping onto the white clad tables.

When it comes to menswear, the trench coat is still the king at Burberry and various interpretations of the same are dominating the overall men’s looks. This allows Tisci to plays with the proportions of the traditional menswear, and challenge the views of the same. While brave at some moments this challenging of the menswear strictly prescribed codes also brings the designer into a territory way beyond the mainstream one. Whether Burberry itself will find space on its shelves for these unconventional menswear looks we can only tell by walking into the store in six months. The proportions get their challenge with the maxi high top menswear trouser, where belt is higher than ever, positioned under the chest. The menswear collection was modelled by a strong selection of fresh faces and previously familiar Burberry models. However joining the runway cast this time, instead of sitting back (or standing in this case) in the audience is Italian singing sensation Mahmood.

To ease us out of the menswear looks the music is brought back to Burberry’s table, this time with none other than the famed composer Max Richter who feasts us with the best of his orchestral moves prepared for the restaurant inspired runway.

Womenswear looks venture into exploring the multiple sides of Burberry under Tisci, while trench is not dominating the overall design, the Burberry check is here to stay. Additionally, the check is this time followed by crystals, an embellishment deeply imbedded into what Tisci and his design lines are. The Burberry horseman gets the spotlight like never before, the striking crystal like embellishments in the shape of the horseman logo take the womenswear looks in various sizes. Tisci’s womenswear Burberry looks allow him a much deeper range, a Burberry dress is now at the centre of the table, taking the spotlight.

“It was important for me to explore what it means to belong, how our roots influence our identity and how the power of community and togetherness is what truly brings meaning to the world. Therefore, I wanted this collection to convey that intensity of feeling and to celebrate not only coming together, but the city in which we come together today; the city in which Burberry grew and established a family. To me, London is a place of dreams, a capital building on its heritage and unified by its diverse community and an attitude of moving beyond boundaries – of pursuing limitless potential,” shares Riccardo Tisci talking about the collection.

The back of the looks is this time as equally important as the front, for Burberry and Tisci’s team. With that in mind the showcase on a top of the table easily makes sense. Thus Burberry press team also makes sure we see the back of all the looks presented at London runway.
