The Homme Plissé Issey Miyake Spring Summer 2024 Collection, titled “Everyday, One of a Kind, Now and Hereafter,” was unveiled on Thursday, June 22nd, at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. This collection expands on the brand’s original design and manufacturing techniques, which are based on garment pleating technology. The collection explores the essence of the brand through a refinement process, resulting in a range of new clothing with simple designs and vibrant colors. The garments, created and made for everyday use, exemplify the Homme Plissé Issey Miyake philosophy. The show started with a large roll of pleated paper unraveling across the museum gallery space, revealing the clothing hidden inside. The design team then made an appearance on stage to outfit the models, combining the garment pleating process into the scenography and demonstrating the potential of this unique technology.
SPRING SUMMER 2024 COLLECTIONS
The collection incorporates the Monthly Colors idea, which introduces new colors each month. This season’s color palette is a balanced blend of gentle and rich tones inspired by hues taken from dyed natural materials. The Rectangle series derives its name from the construction of the garments when laid flat. They become asymmetrical silhouettes when worn, with the edges organically hanging around the body. Picturesque is a print series that depicts natural surroundings including mountains, wind, and earth using simple triangle and circular designs. Layering translucent paints gives the colors depth, while aggressive strokes produce a strong visual interpretation. The Horizon series has clothing with horizontal pleating, made possible by the brand’s knowledge and expertise with pleating technology. These garments lightly bounce as the wearer walks, adding a hint of lightness to the overall silhouette.
The Wing Coat is inspired by the wings of planes and birds. The back vent, which resembles wings, expands in the wind, producing the illusion of mobility. The lightweight stretch fabric adds to the lightness and comfort of the fit. The PL Ramie Shirt has a cape-style design that is layered over the shoulders. The silky texture of the stretch fabric lends to the drapes’ softness. It comes in three various designs and lengths. The Edge Ensemble and Edge Coat Light coats feature large accordion pleats. The Edge Ensemble fabric is made from recycled polyester and has a soft shine and a dry touch, lending a sense of lightness to the formal style. The Edge Coat now comes in two new variations: a trench coat and a hooded jacket. The Like Loafers are a new design of shoe inspired by formal attire. These loafers are composed of elastic material, making them comfortable to wear. They are available in three different colors: beige, charcoal, and black.
