To celebrate its 20th anniversary Thom Browne‘s eponymous label will release the designer’s first-ever monograph. Published by the world renowned Phaidon, the book serves as a comprehensive visual diary of Browne’s creativity and innovation, illuminating the designer’s two-decade-long journey to the pinnacle of American fashion.
Thom Browne has consistently been a prominent figure in the fashion industry since the brand’s inception. Today, his garments are not just clothing; they are art pieces, embodying a unique blend of theatricality and thought-provoking narratives. These elements, paired with an exquisite attention to detail and tailoring, have made Browne’s work timeless, pushing boundaries and challenging conventions.
The monograph, set for release in Autumn 2023, encapsulates the designer’ illustrious career, spanning his various collections and showcasing the originality and lasting impact of his work. Specially commissioned photography features looks from Browne’s collections, adding a rich visual appeal to the volume. The curation of this monograph has been left in the capable hands of Andrew Bolton (Thom’s life partner, British museum curator and current head curator of the Anna Wintour Costume Center at the Metropolitan Museum of Art), the Wendy Yu Curator in Charge at The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York. Bolton, serving as the creative director of this title, has taken great care to present Browne’s world in all its complexity and brilliance. His text provides an insightful narration, tracing the trajectory of the brand and its iconic design philosophy.
The visual content of the monograph is further enriched by the extraordinary photography of celebrated British photographer, Johnny Dufort. His newly commissioned work adds a vivid dimension to Browne’s designs, portraying them with an originality and flair that echo the distinct Thom Browne aesthetic.
