Adidas and Yohji Yamamoto continue their boundary-pushing exploration of elevated sportswear – The Y-3 Spring Summer 2024 Collection is centered on the concept of Contra-Natural, a world where the organic and synthetic blend to create unexpected beauty. This visually arresting collection embodies the essence of Y-3 by fusing adidas‘ sporting innovation with Yohji Yamamoto‘s avant-garde aesthetic philosophy.
SPRING SUMMER 2024 COLLECTIONS
The color palette depicts the collision between the natural and artificial worlds, with the brand’s signature Black, Solid Gray, and White, along with new additions such as Clay Brown, Mesa, Shadow Red, and Mint. These hues are inspired by oxidation, which represents nature’s triumph over metal by converting rusty burgundy into a vibrant acidic mint.
The collection features daring cuts, refined tailored pieces, and expressive silhouettes. The first drop introduces floral graphics that have been digitally distorted based on scans of actual flowers. The second release features refined workwear-inspired garments with cotton twill fabrics, cargo pockets, and adjustable hems, as well as reimagined versions of the iconic adidas Superstar Tracksuit with topographical map detailing. The final release features summer-ready hues and is inspired by adidas’ Teamgeist soccer jerseys, which feature digital rust prints that mimic the natural oxidation process.
Additionally, Y-3 challenges the limits of footwear design. The initial release includes the Y-3 STAN SMITH, Y-3 COUNTRY, and Y-3 GSG9 LOW, all constructed from collapsible premium leather with piping details. The second release includes the Y-3 GENDO, the brand’s most progressive silhouette to date, as well as the Y-3 S-GENDO RUN, which features inventive design elements. The Y-3 KYASU returns in both low- and high-top variations, and the Y-3 KYASU SLIP-ON features a brick-like midsole and a primeknit upper with stitching. The final drop of footwear includes the Y-3 WATER SLIDE, Y-3 SANDAL, and an updated Y-3 ITOGO with an engineered design on its straps.
Completing the collection, Y-3 offers highly adaptable accessories that reflect the seasonal theme. There are soft leather tote bags, wallets, and card holders with distorted floral graphics in drop one, nylon backpacks, totes, and holdalls in drop two, and a beach towel bag with entirely removable components in drop three.
