Magliano‘s Spring/Summer 2025 show, titled “There was once upon a time…,” is inspired by the storytelling of Carlo Collodi and the reflections of Cristina Campo. The collection explores the fleeting memories that catch us off guard, turning them into an archaeological study. The designs reflect familiar spaces like sofas, tables, and markets, setting the stage for a modern fairy tale.
The collection features essential, sometimes gaunt silhouettes in white, black, and grey, reminiscent of early 2000s styles. Classic pieces are given a twist with folk and beach-inspired elements. Coats incorporate towels, trousers double as swimwear, and evening wear blends with casual beach attire. These garments take on unusual functions, playing with the boundaries of fashion and fantasy.
Details are magnified, creating intricate patterns from knots and intersections. The collection favors complex, interwoven designs over straightforward ones. Childhood memories are evoked through cross-stitch, used as a political medium, combining various elements like Google search strings and fragments of identities.
A collaboration with Cormio produces embroidered sweaters symbolizing a strong alliance between colleagues. Pinocchio, representing transformation, is a key figure. New creations like the Effe 10 shoe emerge from playful inspirations. Vimini baskets are turned into jewelry, and workwear is reimagined as chic formal wear, with aprons becoming elegant garments. Latex also features prominently, highlighting a clash between organic and inorganic materials.
One of the standout themes is chemsex, addressed through a print depicting a table of instruments, reminiscent of Giorgio Morandi’s still life art. Magliano’s care club emphasizes empathy and attention to sensitive issues. The collection challenges societal norms by presenting clothes that rebel against conformity, reflecting a broader message of insubordination.
