Gauntlett Cheng celebrated a special moment in their fashion journey with a runway show for their Spring Summer 25 Collection on Friday, September 6th, at the Arlo Williamsburg Ballroom. The event debuted their collection and commemorated the brand’s 10th anniversary. For founders Esther Gauntlett and Jenny Cheng, this homecoming was much more than just another runway show, appreciating their growth, both as designers and individuals.
The Spring Summer 2025 Collection paid homage to the past decade, showcasing craftsmanship and creativity that has come to define Gauntlett Cheng. From the beginning, the duo has embraced garments that are a little unconventional—pieces that were sometimes too small, too large, or somehow out of sync with their lives. However, this season revealed an evolution. The clothes seemed to fit in a way they never had before, signaling that Esther and Jenny had finally grown into the people and designers they had long aspired to become. The collection was less about fantasy and more about finding comfort in their own identities, a love letter not just to their audience but to themselves and to each other.
A special collaboration with David Moses, their original creative partner, added another layer of nostalgia to the show. Moses, who helped Gauntlett Cheng during their early days, returned to collaborate on the 10-year celebration, bringing the brand’s journey full circle. His influence was seen not only in the creative direction of the show but also in the set design, which turned the Arlo Williamsburg Ballroom into a space filled with sentimental memories.
The collection was also underscored by a soundtrack from Chicklette, a longtime musical collaborator, whose rhythmic beats followed Gauntlett Cheng’s decade-long run in fashion. The music, which evoked themes of aspiration and evolution, complemented the collection’s aesthetic.
Textiles played a central role in the collection’s storytelling. Metallic knits, softened by mohair, bias-cut rhinestone nets, sandy sequins, and knits suspended in mesh created a layered, ethereal quality. There were spiraled chiffons and frayed linens, printed lace and the shimmer of well-placed rhinestones.
