Known globally as a member of the K-pop phenomenon, Jennie revealed how she is stepping out of the group’s shadow and crafting a body of work that represents her unique artistic voice. Charting New Territory: The Path to OddAtelier

The creation of her independent label, OddAtelier, marked a turning point for Jennie. This venture has given her creative autonomy and also presented new responsibilities. Reflecting on the decision, she described the process as both exhilarating and overwhelming. While her years as a YG Entertainment trainee prepared her for the rigorous demands of the music industry, launching a label added layers of pressure. “I’ve had to make decisions that define me as an artist,” Jennie said, emphasizing the importance of maintaining control over her vision. The label’s first major release, her single “Mantra,” debuted to critical acclaim, signaling a promising start for her solo career.

The Road to “Mantra”: Finding Her Sound

Recording the majority of her album in Los Angeles, Jennie embraced the city’s vibrant creative community. The process was not without its hurdles, as she initially struggled to find collaborators who matched her vision. “I had to walk into room after room and keep searching until I found the right people.” Eventually, she found her footing, working with producers such as El Guincho and songwriters from Electric Feel.

A Reflection on Growth and Identity

Jennie’s journey to this point has been shaped by both her early years in New Zealand and her formative experiences as a BLACKPINK member. She credited her time abroad with fostering independence and shaping her worldview. “Living away from home taught me resilience,” Jennie shared. This resilience has been a driving force in her solo work, allowing her to explore themes of identity and self-expression. “This album is about piecing together the puzzle of who I am,” Jennie said, hinting at deeply introspective songwriting that blends diverse genres.

Balancing Stardom and Self-Care

Amid the demanding pace of her career, Jennie has learned the value of self-care. “My schedule often leaves me feeling out of sync, but I’ve made time to prioritize my well-being,” Jennie revealed. Her ideal day off includes activities like Pilates, spending time with friends, and organizing her home – practices that provide a sense of stability. This commitment to self-care has allowed her to approach her music with renewed clarity.
