Kith and adidas have announced the Black Tie 2.0 capsule, a new take on the Superstar crafted in Germany. This collaboration departs from their usual athleisure territory, reworking the silhouette with formalwear in mind. Ronnie Fieg first explored this concept in 2008, when he collaborated with adidas and David Z. on the original Black Tie Superstar. Fieg said that in 2008 he launched his first collaboration with adidas, the “Black Tie,” working on the Superstar, a silhouette he believed could suit both formal and casual wear. His intention then, as now, was to create a sneaker that could pair with a formal suit. The original featured a triple black leather construction, elevating the sneaker into dress shoe territory.
The Black Tie 2.0 capsule builds on that idea with five new colorways, all grounded in black leather uppers. The range includes subtle variations in material, finish, and detailing to suit different style preferences. A classic all-black leather option offers a clean, traditional look, while a crocodile-embossed version leans into texture and contemporary styling. Other designs incorporate discreet touches of gold-embossed branding, understated white accents, or no additional branding at all for a more refined, minimalist feel. One iteration brings in black leather with white overlays, nodding to the Superstar’s sportswear heritage.
Each variant offers a specific mood, allowing wearers to choose according to occasion. The monochrome version presents a versatile formal option, the textured crocodile finish adds an element of trend-conscious design, and the black-and-white model recalls the sneaker’s athletic lineage. These variations position the capsule as adaptable to both elevated and casual settings.
The Black Tie 2.0 serves as a preview of Kith’s larger Fall 2025 runway presentation, titled “Institution.” Scheduled for August 17, the show marks Kith’s return to live runway events after a six-year absence.
