The official trailer for IT: Welcome to Derry has been released, offering the first extended look at the upcoming prequel to Stephen King’s IT. The series premieres October 26 on HBO Max, with Sky and NOW bringing it to UK audiences on October 27. New episodes will arrive weekly on Mondays.
Set in 1962, the trailer begins as the Hanlon family settles into Derry, unaware of the horrors beneath the surface. Children whisper about friends who have vanished, one asking if someone could take a child and hide them in the sewers. The footage quickly turns chaotic, bloodied hallways, screams in the night, and kids searching desperately for answers. A meteor crashes to earth in a startling sequence, hinting at the origins of Pennywise. The trailer also pulls in nods to Stephen King’s wider universe, with a Shawshank prison bus rolling into town and a young Dick Hallorann making a brief appearance. Pennywise himself surfaces more clearly than in earlier teasers. The trailer closes with his face emerging fully, grinning as Derry’s nightmare begins again. Actor Bill Skarsgård returns as the terrifying clown.
The project comes from Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs. Muschietti, who directed IT and IT Chapter Two, directs several episodes of the new series, while Fuchs, who co-wrote IT Chapter Two, scripted the first episode and serves as co-showrunner alongside Brad Caleb Kane. Their vision expands the mythology of King’s novel, delving into Derry’s history and the roots of its recurring terror.
The cast includes Jovan Adepo and Taylour Paige as the Hanlon couple, joined by Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso. Skarsgård reprises his role as Pennywise and also contributes as an executive producer.
With its October debut, IT: Welcome to Derry expands one of horror’s most recognizable stories. The trailer promises a season filled with unsettling imagery, fresh characters, and a deeper exploration of the curse that haunts Derry.
