Nike has introduced the LeBron XXIII, a basketball shoe that combines performance-driven design with stories drawn from LeBron James’s two decades in the game. As the twenty-third entry in his signature line, the shoe carries both technical advancements and narrative details that frame LeBron as the “Forever King.” The release includes footwear and apparel that connect to 23 defining moments from his career, offering fans and athletes a way to experience the legacy through sport and style.
For the first time in the line, the silhouette features a full-length ZoomX drop-in midsole. This foam delivers responsiveness while creating a direct connection between the athlete’s foot and the floor. The midsole pairs with a new Crown Containment System that provides stability during forceful movements. Nike complemented these advancements with a carbon fiber shank that supports torsional motion, while a multi-directional traction pattern helps players maintain grip during quick directional changes. An engineered lightweight upper and soft lining keep the shoe comfortable and breathable through extended play.

LeBron described the release as the continuation of his work with Nike, emphasizing how the partnership continues to push design forward. “The LeBron XXIII reflects the deep partnership I have with Nike, pushing the limits of design and innovation to create a new signature shoe that powers my game and tells the story of my career,” he said.
Design leadership inside Nike reinforced that vision. Ross Klein, Senior Director of Men’s Basketball Footwear Product Design, pointed to the unique sensation athletes get when ZoomX foam sits directly underfoot. According to him, the energy return, responsiveness, and weight all combine to give players exactly what they need on court. Klein also highlighted the way simplicity in design comes together with high-quality materials to create a shoe built for both LeBron and the next generation of athletes.

The storytelling component sets the LeBron XXIII apart within Nike’s basketball lineup. Each of the 23 colorways represents a specific moment in LeBron’s career. The Uncharted colorway honors his achievement as the first NBA player to score more than 40,000 points. Miami Twice references his two championships and Finals MVP awards during his time in Miami. Another edition, The Chosen One and the One Who Chose, marks the unprecedented moment when LeBron and his son, Bronny, took the court as the first father and son to play on the same NBA team in 2024.
Each release arrives with graphic T-shirts that echo the narratives of the corresponding colorway. Packaging also carries symbolic value. Every LeBron XXIII comes in a crown-molded box that reflects one of three chapters of his career: “The Chosen 1 Arrives” from 2002 to 2010, “Taking the Throne” from 2010 to 2018, and “Long Live the King” from 2018 onward. Inside each box, buyers will find a booklet outlining the 23 stories, along with a charm that mirrors the heel icon of the shoe.

The footwear pairs with the Forever King apparel line, designed to complement the stories and performance features. The apparel includes jerseys and shorts that recall his years at St. Vincent–St. Mary High School, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Miami Heat, and the Los Angeles Lakers. The designers also built out a range of sportswear: jackets, hoodies, pants, and shorts with premium trims, embroidered lions, Forever King drawcord clamps, and woven jock tags. Wil Green, Senior Director of Basketball Apparel, explained that the team studied previous apparel lines to refine fits and update details, making the collection stand alongside the footwear as part of a unified head-to-toe offering.

LeBron revealed the shoe during his Forever King Tour in China. The tour marked his fifteenth visit to the country as a Nike athlete and the twentieth anniversary of his first Asia tour with the brand. The event underscored his ongoing presence in global basketball culture, connecting with fans and athletes in a country where the game has an especially strong following.
The LeBron XXIII will launch first in China on September 25 with the Uncharted colorway, before expanding globally on October 3 through nike.com and select retailers. Additional colorways will arrive over the following months. The Forever King apparel collection is scheduled to release ahead of the holiday season, giving fans and players the chance to step into both the performance and the narrative of LeBron James’s career.
