New Balance will release the 1906L Loafer in the “Black/Angora” colorway in Spring 2026. Officially unveiled as part of the brand’s expanding 1906 line, the model reframes the technical foundation of the 1906R running shoe within the format of a classic slip-on loafer.

The 1906L first drew attention during its debut on the Junya Watanabe runway in Paris, where its unexpected proportions and familiar tooling immediately stood apart. Rather than functioning as a novelty, the silhouette translated recognizable elements of New Balance’s performance running archive into a new context.

In the “Black/Angora” execution, the shoe adopts a restrained, high-contrast palette that brings focus to its construction. A jet-black mesh base forms the foundation of the upper, echoing the breathable structure associated with the original running model. Glossy synthetic leather overlays sit atop the mesh. These panels give the loafer a defined, assertive profile that stays consistent with the visual identity of the broader 1906 line.
Angora-toned accents appear sparingly across the design. The cream-hued detailing surfaces on the iconic “N” logo and the heel counter, breaking up the black upper with a lighter note that adds depth without overwhelming the composition.

Despite the formal cues introduced through the loafer construction, the 1906L retains the internal architecture of its running counterpart. The shoe keeps the full N-ergy cushioned midsole, a feature long associated with impact absorption and underfoot support within New Balance’s performance lineup. Stability Web arch support also remains intact, reinforcing the shoe’s structural integrity and grounding the design in its athletic origins.

A traditional loafer tongue and penny-slot detailing set the silhouette apart from standard sneakers. Layered materials and visible tooling maintain a clear link to the 1906R. The lace-free design keeps the profile clean and suited to both tailored and casual settings.
With a retail price set at $160 USD, the 1906L “Black/Angora” arrives as part of a broader shift toward loafer-inspired footwear within streetwear and sneaker culture. By reworking an established running platform into a slip-on form, New Balance continues to test how its archive can operate beyond its original categories.
