First Look at Stella McCartney x H&M Collection Ahead of the May 7 Release

The collection marks 20 years since the first Stella McCartney and H&M collaboration

H&M presents the full Stella McCartney collection ahead of its May 7 launch, revisiting a partnership that began in November 2005. That original project marked H&M’s second-ever designer collaboration. Two decades later, the new release reflects her 25-year career, drawing from early work while incorporating current signatures.

H&M COLLABORATIONS

The collection brings together key elements from McCartney’s archive with updated silhouettes. Oversized shirting, sweeping trench coats, and sharp tailoring appear alongside slogan tops and embellished prints. The selection references defining moments from her early collections while reinforcing design codes that continue to shape her work. Stella McCartney describes the project as a reflection on her evolution, combining familiar pieces with designs that trace her development in fashion.

The pieces in the lineup include rib knitted dresses and tops detailed with the Falabella chain at the neckline. A long white gown introduces a cape-like sleeve that loops into the hem, forming a circular structure in motion. The offering extends into partywear, denim separates, and mesh dresses featuring a bold cherry print sourced from the archive. A white mini tee with stud embellishment spelling “Rock Royalty” revisits the iconic DIY tops Stella McCartney and Liv Tyler wore to the designer’s very first Met Gala 25 years ago.

I see this collection as a journey through my fashion history. It is a true mix of current classics and some of my old favorites that showcase my first forays into fashion and the development of my signatures. It’s playful, strong, sparkling, joyful, refined. – Stella McCartney.

The accessories lineup introduces six bag styles, including small branded shoulder bags, oversized totes, and a chocolate-toned bag with a Falabella chain-detail strap. Necklaces and earrings crafted in mixed-tone recycled metal, along with loafers with chain detailing on the front, also incorporate the Falabella chain.

Sustainability guides the material choices, with recycled content, organic cotton, and wool certified to the RWS Standard, alongside coated materials developed from feedstocks such as industrial corn and recycled vegetable oil. This reflects McCartney’s long-standing focus on responsible sourcing and material innovation.

The campaign, photographed by Sam Rock in London, features American singer-songwriter and actress Renee Rapp, as well as top models Angelina Kendall and Adwoa Aboah. The mood shifts between playfulness and ease, with a sense of nostalgia set against a forward-looking perspective. The campaign introduces &Stella as the collaboration’s tagline. Versions such as &Here &Now and &Me &You frame it as a message about connection and care, linking the present with both past and future.

Ann-Sofie Johansson describes Stella McCartney as a designer with a clear and consistent vision, noting that the collection traces her development from an early rule-breaking voice to an established design figure. She adds that each piece carries a distinct point of view and reflects that progression.
