Supreme Spring 2026 Honors DJ Screw Legacy

The collection draws from Houston’s chopped and screwed sound and its cultural reach

Supreme introduces a Spring 2026 collection created with the estate of DJ Screw, bringing focus to one of the most influential figures in Houston hip hop. The release connects directly to Screw’s legacy, drawing from his impact on music and the culture that formed around his work.

Born Robert Earl Davis Jr. in 1971, DJ Screw grew up on Houston’s southside. He taught himself to DJ at age 12 using his mother’s blues records. By 1990, he began shaping his own mixes, working with analog equipment to build a distinct sound. He developed the chopped and screwed technique by running two copies of the same record at once, slowing the tempo while cutting and repeating vocal segments. He recorded these sessions on a four-track cassette recorder, which allowed further manipulation and led to a slowed, hypnotic result that defined his style.

As demand for his tapes increased, DJ Screw invited local rappers to record over his mixes. This group formed the Screwed Up Click, a collective that shaped Houston rap throughout the 1990s. Alongside these collaborations, he released four studio albums during the decade, including 3 ‘N The Mornin’ Parts One and Two, while continuing to distribute his tapes through a growing local network.

DJ Screw passed away in November 2000 at age 29. His work continues to influence artists across hip hop and experimental electronic music. His technique remains a reference point for producers who engage with tempo, vocal structure, and analog processes.

Supreme builds this collection around that legacy, working directly with his estate. The lineup includes a Football Jersey, Hooded Sweatshirt, Sweatshort, Tee, 5-Panel, and a Bobblehead. Each piece draws from DJ Screw’s presence and the visual language tied to his work and community.

The collection launches April 2, with availability in Asia starting April 4.
