Netflix has released the trailer for MOURINHO, a new three-part documentary series about José Mourinho and his career at football’s elite clubs. The series launches globally on Netflix on August 11, 2026, and follows his rise from FC Porto to Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and his current return to the Spanish club.

The production followed Mourinho for two years and examines the victories, headlines and contradictions that have defined his career. It begins with his Champions League success at FC Porto and traces the years that established him as one of football’s leading managers. Mourinho later managed Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid, collecting league titles in four countries and winning the Champions League twice.
MOURINHO also examines how he changed public expectations around football management. His results, press conferences and touchline conduct made him one of the game’s most recognizable and outspoken figures. The documentary explores the personality behind the “Special One” name and looks beyond the public image that accompanied his work at major clubs.
Netflix and the production team gained exclusive access to Mourinho during the two-year production period. The series combines his account with candid interviews from former players, managers, executives and colleagues who witnessed key stages of his career.
The interview list includes Sir Alex Ferguson, John Terry, Iker Casillas, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Didier Drogba, Marcelo, Samuel Eto’o, Javier Zanetti, Frank Lampard and Petr Čech. The documentary also includes new interviews with André Villas-Boas, Claude Makelele, Eden Hazard, Luis Figo, Marco Materazzi, Massimo Moratti, Peter Kenyon, Ricardo Carvalho, Rui Faria and Sami Khedira.
These contributors provide perspectives from clubs, dressing rooms and rivalries that shaped Mourinho’s record. Several contributors played under him. Others worked alongside him or faced his teams during major periods in European football. John Battsek produces MOURINHO after his work on BECKHAM. Battsek has won two Academy Awards. Miles Coleman also serves as producer. VENTURELAND handles production.
Joe Pearlman directs the series. Pearlman previously directed Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now, Robbie Williams and Bros: After the Screaming Stops. His work has earned BAFTA and Emmy nominations.
