New Balance introduces the Made in USA 2040v5, a new version of a model created to test the capabilities of the brand’s domestic manufacturing facilities. The release combines premium materials, advanced tooling and complex production methods in a design that New Balance describes as one of its most ambitious footwear projects to date.

The 2040 line first appeared in 2012 with the launch of the 2040v1, which New Balance developed as a top expression of its Made in USA program. Since then, the series has served as a platform for new technologies and advanced manufacturing techniques within the company’s US factories. The 2040v5 continues that role with a construction focused on material quality, engineering and technical performance.
“The 2040v5 is one of the most ambitious products we’ve ever created,” says Brian Lynn, Global Vice President of Lifestyle Product at New Balance. He explains that the team evaluated every detail through craft, performance and material integrity while developing the shoe as an ultimate expression of Made in USA footwear.
Premium Horween nubuck leather appears across the foxing, toe and mudguard, giving the upper a material foundation centered on quality and durability. New Balance adds debossed finishes, layered construction and custom TPU branding components throughout the shoe, with each element contributing to the model’s detailed build.
The technical setup underfoot carries much of the model’s engineering focus. New Balance equips the 2040v5 with a full-length carbon fiber plate and a secondary medial carbon plate. These elements work with a three-part cushioning system that combines FuelCell, ABZORB SBS and ENCAP.
The 2040v5 also continues the original role of the series as a testing ground for what New Balance can produce through its US-based facilities. The shoe uses the 2040 framework to bring several manufacturing techniques and material choices into one model, keeping the focus on what the Made in USA program can achieve at its highest level.
New Balance will launch the Made in USA 2040v5 exclusively in North America on August 20, 2026, through its website and select retailers, with a wider global release scheduled for May 2027. The pair is priced at $400 USD.
