New Balance introduces the 991v2 “Walnut/Shitake,” a new Made in England edition of the 99X series model scheduled to launch on August 20, 2026. The release uses a palette of Walnut brown and Shitake grey-brown to give the streamlined silhouette a seasonal update built around layered materials, tonal detailing and a cushioning system that combines several of the brand’s established technologies.

The upper brings together suede overlays, smooth leather panels and breathable mesh. New Balance distributes the two main shades throughout those materials, allowing the construction of the 991v2 to remain clearly visible even within a restrained color scheme. Walnut introduces the richer brown element, while Shitake adds a softer grey-brown tone.
Suede covers key sections of the design and gives the shoe a textured finish. Smooth leather creates a cleaner surface on additional panels, while mesh introduces a lighter visual element and provides breathability.
Deep brown continues through the inner lining and rubber outsole, extending the palette beyond the upper. New Balance keeps the branding within the same tonal direction. The familiar “N” logos remain visible on the sides, while debossed “991v2” stamps identify the model without introducing a contrasting color treatment.
The 991v2 retains the streamlined proportions associated with the 99X series while using its material combinations to define the individual sections of the shoe. The Walnut and Shitake treatment gives the model a distinctly earthy appearance, with brown shades carrying from the upper into the lining and outsole.
Underfoot, the 991v2 uses full-length FuelCell foam with ABZORB pods and ENCAP support for cushioning and stability. The “Walnut/Shitake” edition places its strongest emphasis on color, texture and material variation. New Balance will release the Made in England 991v2 “Walnut/Shitake” on August 20, 2026.
