Amazon MGM Studios has released the official trailer for Verity, the upcoming film adaptation of Colleen Hoover‘s global best-selling novel. Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett lead the psychological thriller, which arrives in theaters internationally on October 2, 2026.

The film follows Lowen Ashleigh, played by Johnson, a struggling writer who relocates to the remote Crawford estate after she accepts a job ghostwriting for renowned author Verity Crawford, played by Hathaway. Lowen takes responsibility for completing Verity’s successful book series after an injury leaves the author unable to continue the work herself.
During her stay at the estate, Lowen discovers what appears to be a collection of autobiographical notes written by Verity. The pages contain disturbing confessions involving Verity and her husband, Jeremy Crawford, played by Hartnett. As Lowen reads further, the material complicates her understanding of the family and raises questions about what Verity wrote as fiction and what may reflect reality.
The story draws Lowen deeper into Verity and Jeremy’s private life as she struggles to interpret what she has found. Attraction, manipulation, opportunity and obsession begin to shape her experience inside the Crawford home, while the manuscript forces her to consider whether she should reveal its contents.
Hathaway takes the title role as Verity Crawford, while Johnson plays Lowen Ashleigh. Hartnett joins them as Jeremy Crawford. Brady Wagner plays Crew Crawford, Asel Swango appears as Frida, and Daniel Echevarria plays Alex.
Michael Showalter directs the adaptation after previously directing The Idea of You, which also starred Hathaway. Nick Antosca and Colleen Hoover wrote the screenplay.
Verity follows another screen adaptation of Hoover’s fiction. Her best-selling novel It Ends With Us reached cinemas in 2024. The upcoming thriller brings another of her books to film, this time with a story built around a writer, an unsettling discovery and an increasingly difficult separation between fiction and reality.
