Fashion brand CPLUS SERIES presented its Spring Summer 2023 Collection with a digital presentation during the ongoing New York Fashion Week. For this season, designer C.T. Liu unpredictably blends denim,?prints, retro and sci-fi?references to expose beauty as a poetic and abstract allegory. For its 10th season show, CPLUS SERIES?raises interesting ideas: a commentary on the propensity of fashion to emulate references from prior decades, and the perception that the parameters of beauty have evolved exponentially in recent years. The collection also features pieces made in collaboration with jeans brand Levi’s.

There is a universal desire to control time, whether by going back to the past or by prophesying to the future. However, time is bounded by its own laws. Set in a future where time is uncertain, illusion abounds reflecting past and future in equal measure. Beauty is polymorphic, its standards defined by chance and accident. Are classical and dignified paradigms, once the standard, still the reference? Is symmetry still the defining parameter of beauty??Or is beauty something that now happens by accident, breaking through unpredictably. Liu amalgamates vintage and futuristic prints and riffs retro styling quirks with sci-fi exemplars.?He stays true to his code – a multi-level control of fabrics, an iconic printing language, a free combination of soft and substantial materials, and an appropriate combination of perennial and innovative techniques – while experimenting with retro prints on silk and chiffon, and hollowed & brushed knit fabrics.
