The Simon Cracker Spring/Summer 2025 collection, titled “A Matter of Principle,” explores the complexities of communication and interpersonal relations through fashion. The concept is inspired by the idea that invoking a ‘matter of principle’ can create a communicative ‘knot,’ making interactions challenging. This collection aims to ignite critical thinking and reflect on contemporary issues using fashion as a medium.

Inspired by Ronald D. Laing‘s 1970 book “Knots,” the designers utilized knotting as a primary sartorial technique. The garments are created almost entirely through knotting, incorporating flaps of fabric, drawstrings, strings, and laces. These elements simultaneously convey a sense of union and ornamentation while also suggesting constriction, embodying the paradoxes of communication.

The collection features four ‘nervous’ colors: absolute black, artificial blue, acid green, and violet. These shades continue the ‘wrong’ dyeing effect introduced in the previous season, adding a dynamic and edgy aesthetic. This unconventional color palette enhances the collection’s theme of challenging norms and provoking thought.

A significant highlight of the collection is the collaboration with Australian, a historic Italian brand known for its tennis apparel and broader sportswear. Simone Cracker utilized deadstock from Australian to create upcycled pieces, integrating semi-assembled garments into the new designs. Additionally, a capsule of black/neon technical garments was developed in collaboration with Australian’s creative team, contributing to the main collection.

Another notable collaboration is with DR. MARTENS, iconic shoes renowned for their principled stance. The brand’s deadstock was ‘crackerized’ through dyeing, disassembling, and hand-customizing with pins, badges, and pieces of old costume jewelry. Each pair of shoes is unique, reflecting the individuality of Simone Cracker’s clothing.

By using fashion to highlight and critique societal issues, Simone Cracker aims to foster awareness and provoke thought. Designers Simone and Filippo have crafted a collection that is not only visually striking but also deeply meaningful, encouraging viewers to reflect on the principles that shape our world.
