Fashion house AREA its Spring Summer 2026 show in New York, marking the first collection designed by Nicholas Aburn as creative director. His debut delivered a wardrobe that carried AREA’s signature shine into sharper, more versatile forms, built around movement and contrast. Sequins, crystals, and sculptural lines returned, but Aburn added tailoring, sportswear references, and denim reworked into new silhouettes. The result mirrored New York itself: fast, energetic, and always in motion.

SPRING SUMMER 2026 WOMENSWEAR

Aburn joined AREA in February 2025 after experience at Tom Ford, Alexander Wang, and in Balenciaga’s couture studio under Demna. Raised in Maryland and trained at Central Saint Martins, he had admired AREA before taking on the role. He described his vision as rooted in joy, emphasizing that he wants people to feel excitement when they wear his clothes. That perspective guided his first collection for the house.

The Spring Summer 2026 wardrobe imagined a woman who could step onto the sidewalk in daylight and stay out until dawn. Sequins covered cropped jackets, rhinestone detailing transformed tailoring, and sports jerseys stretched into floor-length gowns. Minidresses resembled chains of diamond necklaces, and oversized paillettes decorated skirts and tops, exaggerating movement with each step. Aburn introduced denim as a key element, distressed, crystal-studded, and sculpted into shapes that carried both grit and glamour.

Accessories and staging reinforced the playful direction. Confetti, pom-poms, and party remnants inspired textures and finishes, turning after-hours imagery into design language. Bags and shoes echoed this energy while keeping a sense of practicality. The runway reflected the pace of New York, where an outfit needs to function from morning to night without pause. Aburn leaned into that reality, presenting AREA as a house that thrives on unpredictability.

Tailored blazers and trousers stood beside crystal gowns, while sportswear references collided with couture-level craft. The collection encouraged spontaneity and energy, with pieces made to be lived in as much as admired. Aburn’s debut repositioned AREA’s glamour within a framework that felt fresh and useful for contemporary life.
