New Balance continues to build on the momentum of the 2002R with a new set of Gore-Tex editions scheduled for Spring 2026. Following the earlier return of the original 2002R “Protection Pack” colorways this year, the brand now turns toward a more focused update that introduces three monochromatic options.

The new Gore-Tex Protection Pack extends the visual language that helped define the 2002R’s resurgence. New Balance retains the model’s recognizable jagged overlay construction, a detail that has become closely associated with the Protection Pack identity. These overlays sit atop a leather base and reinforce the shoe’s layered appearance, while Gore-Tex integration brings added functionality suited for variable conditions.

The first colorway arrives in light grey, offering a fresh interpretation of New Balance’s well-known grey palette. This version applies tonal suede and leather across the upper, allowing texture and shape to drive the design rather than contrast. Subtle color accents appear within the sole unit, where pale blue, dark grey, and tan elements add quiet variation. These details support the overall minimal direction of the shoe without shifting focus away from the core construction.
Alongside the light grey option, New Balance introduces a black version that leans into a fully dark presentation. This “Triple Black” approach covers the upper in black leather, reinforcing the model’s utility-focused direction. The monochrome finish complements the Gore-Tex build, giving the shoe a clean, understated look that emphasizes function through restraint.

The third release adopts a wheat colorway that points toward fall and winter styling. This option applies a warm tone across the upper, setting it apart from the cooler grey and black pairs. The wheat version still relies on the same leather base and overlay system, keeping the design unified across all three releases. The color choice aligns naturally with seasonal wardrobes while preserving the rugged character associated with the Protection Pack series.
All three colorways share the same underlying structure and material approach, with Gore-Tex serving as the defining functional component. New Balance uses this material to reinforce the 2002R’s role as a lifestyle sneaker that can handle a wider range of conditions. The Gore-Tex build works in tandem with the layered upper and supportive sole unit.

Although New Balance has not confirmed a specific launch date, the brand plans to release the 2002R Gore-Tex “Grey,” “Black,” and “Wheat” colorways in Spring 2026. With this update, New Balance continues to refine the Protection Pack concept through focused color choices and practical material upgrades, reinforcing the 2002R’s position within the brand’s modern lineup.
