DSCENE Magazine hosted a launch cocktail for its new Design Under Pressure issue at Villa Albertine in New York, bringing the publication’s latest print release into the city’s design week calendar. Held during NYCxDesign, where DSCENE served as a media partner, the evening gathered a cross-disciplinary guest list of artists, designers, architects, gallerists, curators, editors, and creative industry professionals.
EVENTS
The cocktail took place inside Villa Albertine’s New York headquarters at the Payne Whitney Mansion on Fifth Avenue, creating a direct connection between the issue’s editorial focus and the architectural setting of the event. One of the new issue’s cover stories was photographed at Villa Albertine, making the location part of the magazine’s visual story as well as the site of its celebration.

Design Under Pressure marks a focused editorial chapter for DSCENE Magazine. The issue looks at the conditions shaping creative work today, from speed and visibility to economic strain, public scrutiny, and the pressure to keep producing. Across fashion, art, architecture, design, music, and culture, the issue asks how creative figures protect their vision while working inside industries that demand constant evolution.
The evening reflected that idea through its guest list and setting. Cover star Georgia Fowler attended the launch, joining DSCENE Magazine for a night shaped by conversation, creative exchange, and the shared language of design. Fowler appears in the issue in a cover story photographed by Gary Lupton at the TWA Hotel at JFK Airport. The shoot places fashion in dialogue with the architectural legacy of Eero Saarinen, whose work remains central to the history of modern design in the United States.
The issue also features Meredith Mickelson in a cover story photographed by Mylena Saza at Villa Albertine’s Payne Whitney Mansion. Shot inside one of New York’s most recognizable cultural residences, the story connects the issue to the building’s role as a center for French-American exchange and creative programming.

Across its pages, Design Under Pressure brings together a wide range of designers, artists, actors, musicians, and cultural voices. The issue includes a special design cover featuring Salehe Bembury, along with cover stories and features with Bethany Antonia, Filarri, Saul Nash, Made by Astronauts, Aisling Camps, Finepianta, Maria Koshenkova, Emilie Luc-Duc, Kilian Vos, So Koizumi, Atra, Pipenco, Christine Kalia, NM3, Yani Shi, Coco Montes, Teo Abihdana, and more. Each feature approaches design through discipline, authorship, and the realities of creative work under pressure.
The launch took place during Oui Design! Festival at Villa Albertine, presented as part of NYCxDesign. The festival celebrates French craft and design through exhibitions, open studios, panels, and special events across New York. At Villa Albertine, the program included an exhibition of Design & Craft Residency laureates and former residents, with scenography by Harry Nuriev of Crosby Studios. For DSCENE, the setting offered a natural context for an issue centered on design as a cultural force.

Ruinart joined the evening as the official drink partner. With a long history of supporting artists and creative initiatives, Ruinart added a considered layer to the event, aligning with the magazine’s focus on craft, culture, and creative exchange.
The Design Under Pressure launch marked a key New York moment for DSCENE Magazine, placing the new issue in dialogue with the city’s design community during NYCxDesign. More than a presentation of a print release, the evening brought together the people, spaces, and conversations that shape the magazine’s view of contemporary culture.
