Nike brings the Air Force 1 Low “What The LA” back this Holiday season, returning a city focused release from the brand’s “What The” series. The sneaker first arrived in 2019 alongside the “What The NYC” edition, giving Los Angeles its own take on a format known for combining multiple references into one design.

With “What The LA,” Nike gave the concept a city driven direction. Earlier “What The” sneakers often pulled elements from past releases and gathered them into one pair. This edition looked to Los Angeles sports culture and used the city’s teams as the main source of color, texture, and attitude. Nike built the shoe around a wide view of the city, connecting basketball, baseball, hockey, and streetwear through a single Air Force 1.

Purple and gold lead the palette and point most directly to the Lakers. Blue, red, black, and metallic accents add references to the Dodgers and the Kings. The full color mix gives the shoe a layered identity while keeping it away from direct team merchandise.

Nike combines suede and leather panels with glossy overlays, contrast Swooshes, and splattered midsoles. The shoe uses several surfaces across one build, moving from soft suede to smooth leather to shine and splatter.

Los Angeles script appears near the heels and across the insoles, tying the pair back to its local concept. Nike avoids official team logos, giving the sneaker more room to work as a tribute to the city as a whole.

That restraint helped the original “What The LA” hold attention after its 2019 release. The sneaker spoke to several parts of Los Angeles culture at once, from the Lakers and Dodgers to the Kings and the city’s broader streetwear presence. It reached beyond one sport and treated Los Angeles as a full visual language.
