MONSE presented its Spring Summer 2027 collection at Skylight at The Refinery, marking Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia’s first runway show since leaving Oscar de la Renta. The designers introduced 44 looks built around the image of the “broken” tulip, a rare flower known for irregular, variegated petals. BACKSTAGE
Kim and Garcia used the bloom to explore fragility, strength, refinement and unfinished detail. They abstracted and inverted tulip imagery throughout the collection, allowing construction and texture to carry the floral reference beyond direct prints.
Woven florals appeared inside out, exposing their underlying structures. Custom lace offered a lighter interpretation, while sheer organza introduced transparency throughout the runway. Embroidery, fil coupé fringe, feathered edges and distressed surfaces added texture. Sculptural tulip appliqués gave the flower physical dimension, while asymmetric draping suggested petals and stems separating from one another.
New York also informed the collection on a personal level. Kim and Garcia met in the city, founded MONSE there and developed the house through their shared work. Spring 2027 places that history within a new phase as the pair turns its full attention to the label.
