Zara introduces Re{form} Zara Authored by the Couturier John Galliano, a collection built around the transformation of existing garments. Galliano begins with familiar Zara pieces and changes their construction, proportion and function through cutting, pressing, reversing and reconstruction. The process turns recognizable wardrobe staples into new forms while allowing traces of their original identities to remain visible.

AD CAMPAIGNS

The collection starts with garments already present within Zara’s recent stock. A long wool-mix coat, a lace-trimmed slip dress and an oversized cotton shirt become working foundations for more complex silhouettes. Galliano shifts proportions dramatically, using each piece as material for further alteration instead of beginning with an entirely new pattern.

One wool-mix coat loses much of its front section while the pockets move further toward the back. Extended lapels and elongated tails change the garment’s balance and create a more theatrical silhouette. A lace-trimmed slip dress travels upward across the body until much of the original dress gathers around the neck, where it takes on the appearance of an oversized decorative collar.

Elsewhere, Galliano enlarges a Zara shirt to an exaggerated scale and transforms it into a jacket through a trompe l’oeil leather print. Repositioned pockets alter how the wearer places their hands and carries the garment, making posture part of the construction. These interventions give familiar pieces a different physical relationship with the body.

Tailoring plays a central role throughout Re{form}. Cropped tailcoats, raised collars and technically constructed pieces introduce historical references through proportion and cut. Draped dresses follow the body more closely, while bias-cut gowns appear in saturated jewel tones. The collection also incorporates transparent tulle layers that fall across the body in veil-like sections.

Accessories and styling extend the same exaggerated approach. Bonnets incorporate baseball-cap elements, while cravats and bicorne hats bring more formal historical shapes into the collection. Mismatched platform shoes add further distortion to the proportions. These details give the looks an intentionally theatrical quality without separating them from the reconstruction process that defines the clothes.

Zara’s current Re{form} offering also includes limited-edition pieces and accessories. The online selection features long tulle gloves alongside complete looks in black, fuchsia, light beige, fluorescent lime, khaki, burgundy and silver.

Across the collection, Galliano repeatedly alters existing forms instead of concealing where they began. Shirts become jackets, dresses shift position across the body and coats lose or gain sections as their proportions change. The process gives Re{form} its central idea: transformation through construction.

The first Zara Re{form} collection focuses less on creating an entirely separate vocabulary and more on changing the familiar. Galliano uses cut, scale, draping and repositioning to push everyday Zara garments into unexpected shapes, creating a collection defined by alteration, theatrical proportion and visible reconstruction. The Re{form} Zara campaign was photographed by Steven Meisel and styled by Karl Templer, with hair by Guido Palau and makeup by Pat McGrath.
