Getting your kids to care about what they wear can be hard. Clothes can be the last thing on their mind but in due time, they’ll eventually reach an age where appearance is everything. As a parent, you’ll want to give them something to aspire to and hold their hand through the process. In any case, it should be fun for you and the child as well – and who knows, you might learn a thing or two about your fashion sense as well.

1. Games
For a child, games are everything. And it also just happens to be one of the few times where they pay attention – even if it’s just for a few minutes. Once you have their attention, it’s important to hold onto it. Games are a great way to discover their personality, what they like, who they look up to and so on. Role-playing with your daughter, and playing an online flash game, usually Dress Up Games for girls, are both great ways to connect with your child.
2. Toys
Like games, toys are a great way to discover their preferences. There is a lot of thought process behind choosing a toy and what your child chooses says a lot about them. So, don’t be afraid to go shopping with them and be an important factor when deciding on a toy. Choosing a toy isn’t as easy as it seems and there’s a lot going on in the process.
3. Know their preferences
After doing the above, you should get a general sense of their personality and preferences. This is useful for clothes and other areas as well. Knowing what your child wants can be hard. But once you get a general sense of the type of clothes they’re into – you’re one step closer to getting them to care about what they wear.

4. Take time to practice
By age 3, most children can handle the basics of getting dressed, and even if it’s a slow process, you should let your child dress themselves as much as possible. Even if it takes longer, it’s still a great habit and will transform into something bigger once they grow older. Aside from instilling a sense of independence in them at an early age, it’s a great way to get them to think for themselves.
5. Have fun
Most of all, having fun is what matters at the end of the day. Connecting with them becomes easier, you get a glimpse into their true personality, their future taste and more. It’s important to guide them, not to force them. The process should be fun for everyone involved – otherwise, what’s the point? So, don’t be afraid to have fun with your child, play some dress up games for girls, roleplay with them and be a child along with them. If done well, it’ll be obvious and will pay off in the future.
