Like any clothing trend, throwback sneakers come and go. 90s sneakers are on their way back in. Let’s face it, we all need some good news in the year 2020.

There are no better pair of throwback kicks than Air Jordans. Kick it back to the 90s and better times with these awesome sneakers. Here’s why Air Jordans are the best of all throwback sneakers.

Read more after the jump:

The Early History Behind Air Jordans

In 1984, Nike and NBA player Michael Jordan teamed up to launch Jordan Brand, one of the most iconic athlete-endorsed brands of all time. For 34 years, Air Jordans have ruled the basketball scene, but they weren’t always popular.

NBA had a rule about having all players in primarily white shoes. Throughout 1985 the NBA charged a $5000 fine per game that Michael Jordan wore his famous red and black sneakers on the court. Nike paid every fine for Michael Jordan as he wore his Air Jordan shoes.

Incidentally, the Air Jordan I is the only Air Jordans to have the Nike logo on them. As the Air Jordan influence grew, so did the changes in other Air Jordan sneakers. From colors to purposes, Air Jordans have made an incredible indent in basketball culture.

Nike cofounder Phil Knight called the success of Air Jordan I “the perfect combination of quality product, marketing, and athlete endorsement.”

Rapper Nas talked about Air Jordans in a recent ESPN and Netflix documentary about Michael Jordan “The Last Dance“. “For a kid, it was almost like owning a light saber, from Star Wars,” explains Nas in the documentary. “You needed that shoe to be like him. It was more than a status symbol. You knew that this guy was the guy.” he added.

The Variety of Choices with Air Jordans

Air Jordans have a vast variety of choices of different sneakers you can choose from. You can’t underestimate these products when trying to decide which Air Jordans you want to be your personal throwback sneakers.

From Air Jordans to Air Jordan XXXI, and other AJs in the mix, you can choose from whatever Air Jordan retro sneakers suit you best. Each has a personalized style, so you’ll find the ones best for you.

The Most Recent Air Jordan Sneakers

The most recent Air Jordan sneaker, as of April 2021, is the Air Jordan 13s Red Flint. With this pair sporting bright colors, you can’t go wrong with a pair of these.

Later in November, other Air Jordan styles will premiere. You can stay on the lookout for a revamp of Air Jordan 1 called High CO.JP in a midnight navy color, as well as new a new Air Jordan 3, Air Jordan 4, Air Jordan 6, and a metallic gold Air Jordan 1. That said, the most anticipated one for League of Legends fans will be the League of Legends X Air Jordan 1 ZoomAir.

New Air Jordan styles are released constantly. These retro sneakers have a legacy of their own, paying tribute to Michael Jordan while simultaneously innovating new styles of Air Jordans for generations to come.

The Ultimate Throwback Sneakers

Other sneakers are great throwbacks, but Air Jordans are special. Not only have they paved the way for sneakers in basketball, but they are now the equipment provider for several football programs as of 2018. The universities of Florida, Oklahoma, Michigan, and North Carolina all use Air Jordans for their football programs.

Whether they are your style or not, you can’t deny that Air Jordans are the ultimate throwback sneakers. Air Jordans are a timeless classic that isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
