As we all know, ZARA is one of the most popular brands when it comes to fast-fashion brands. While it’s production policies are questionable, there is something good when it comes to their clothes, it can definetely resell well. According to UK’s shopping and fundraising platform SAVOO, Zara is the most reselled brand this year across multiple shopping and marketplace platforms. Clothes reselling platforms have become incredibly popular in the past few years, offering a vast amount of rare vintage pieces as well as quality products marked at lower price-points. The marketplaces provide great places for the ones who are done with overconsumption but still want to refresh their wardrobe. Across Depop, eBay, Vestiaire Collective, and ASOS Marketplace Zara has the biggest resell rate. The biggest number of Zara second-hand items can be found on Depop, 439,696 items listed. While it’s a great way for clothes to circulate, we’re wondering why doesn’t every fast-fashion brand has it’s own resell platform?
Zara is taking that important step by introducing the Zara Pre-Owned platform where you can resell, donate, but also repair your Zara pieces. While it’s only available in United Kingdom, it is a great step towards a more sustainable business model. Through this platform, customers will be able to make more sustainable decisions with regards to their used clothing and will contribute to the reduction of waste and the consumption of new raw materials. The platform is aligned with and complementary to existing initiatives such as the Inditex Sustainability Innovation Hub, an innovation platform focused on the ongoing search for the best and most sustainable materials, technologies and processes partnering with start-ups such as CIRC or Infinited Fiber, innovation accelerators and reference collaborators such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). We certainly hope that this innitiative will become a worldwide one, and we can stop overconsuming and focus on more sustaibale practices.
